WDS trhough ethernet or without visibility?

Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:12 pm

Dears,

WE have a 7 floor building and on most stairs wireless visibility is not available through the floors (e.g. from floor 5 we cannot see floor 6 - even with large antennas)

Id like to use something like WDS, the directive is when a user see an access point just enter his WPA2 key once and on the other access points he shouldn't authenticate himself again.

With WDS it's working well (i think), but

- there are floors where the wifi spots see each other, it should be visible as one access point (as with WDS it's working)
- there are some where not

I bought 8 pcs of 433AH and all of them are plugged into our ethernet network into a VLAN, so on ethernet every hotspot can see each other

Is it possible to WDS thru ethernet or it's working only if we have visibility ?

Ive tried it, A wifi was in AP mode, B wifi was in wds-slave mode, but the B wifi always drops down the client after connecting and searching for channels

Is there a way to solve this ?

Any help would be appreciated

Thx

Did you try simply turning off WDS?
Set all the APs to the same SSID and same WPA2 key.
Since you are no longer using WDS, use different channels to maximize speeds.

Since you could get all your radios down to the wiredbackbone, I think there is no obvious need for WDS to be enabled. Maybe you should try and describe what you want to achieve by trying WDS initially...
