currently I'm using MT based CPEs (rb133c+R52), and I'm quite happy with this;
we have built audio and led aligment tool taking out buzzer and user led from antenna enclosure.
In order to have the "perfect CPE", only one thing is missing... a standalone web server.
In fact, currently we have two CPE types: modem like an NAT router, to give customers the possibility to use one or more PCs in their network with PPPoE authentication. The problem is that customers that have CPE in NAT router mode need port forwarding for services on hosts into their network (eg. web server, ftp, emule, etc...), currently need technical support from our helpdesk that changes settings on their CPEs according to their needs.
Instead, if a web server could be embedded on CPEs, a customized interface might be developed, like all common routers (ethernet/wireless) available on the market. Using the web interface, Customers might have access to basic functionalities to change limited CPE settings to match their needs (port forwarding, LAN addressing, Firewall rules, etc...). This will result in happier customers and less work for our tech support.

Might this be possible in next ROS releases?

From what I understand the functionality that you're looking for can be written or programmed using the API that is currently in V3.

I understand what you mean. the CFG is very limited now, but you can use it for simple tasks. But we are working on a better one too.

An OEM-brandable and operator/OEM-customisable web-box would be really useful.
Allow OEM logos, operator logos, and let OEM or operator constrain access to features.
e.g. a wireless CPE could just display a few options, such as signal strength, throughput, IP & MAC address, uptime etc
But a SOHO router would need more settings, say similar to the web GUI on a Netgear router, for example.
Another neat trick would be to have password-access to advanced features, or only allow "changing" settings if logging in as an administrator, but only "seeing but not changing" settings if as a user.
Operators would only want to give out admin passwords say during course of a tech support call, or to advanced users say.

I totally agree.... iam also looking for ths kinda solution for standalone customize webpage... i hope mikrotik guys comeup with some solution as soonest as possible........

There is a way to adjust, I look website. I may only make a good programmer, so this is unfortunately unusable for other users mikrotik router. The problem is that the procedure and only small changes quite complex. Unfortunately this is because mikrotik does not provide enough data to make it any easier to make. Designed the API, which is so complicated to use, that nothing useful has never served.

I'd a look to TowNet Interface a couple of days ago, it seems to be what me and others WISPs were looking for..
They are selling it via their own brand WispMax (http://www.wispmax.com) at 2,20€ each. I think that I'll buy a couple of licences and then try to work around their API.
