Updated Mikrotik radius dictionary

Wed May 20, 2009 12:24 am

Hi,
I would like to ask if there is updated dictionary for ros 3.x? There were several improvements (wpa-psk) and they are not included in 2.9 dictionary.

My second question is if developers plan to add Mikrotik radius comment? At least for the registration table. The table is usually full of rows and technicians can't easily identify them. It was nice when we use access list but nowadays we have much more routers and we have been using radius. Without access list entries we don't have comment in registration tables:(

Thanks

Currently there is no dictionary, but we will try to add it in the future.

There are no any changes to use WPA,
you should select the appropriate encryption algorithm,

Mikrotik-Wireless-Enc-Algo

0 - no encryption,
1 - 40-bit WEP,
2 - 104-bit WEP
3 - aes-ccm
4 - tkip

3,4 are used together with WPA.

Mikrotik-Wireless-Psk - to preshared key used by client, when client authenticates with PSKmethod,

Thank you, sergejs. Could you tell me the answer for my second question? It seems to me that my second question is rather unpopular among mikrotik developers and I can't understand why. There were several threads with this question without any answer;(.

Thank you for the request.
I think that currently the main problem is that you are not able to configure comments in /registration-table, but registration-table borrows it from /access-list or /connect-list

Right you are. We had to revert back to access list solution from radius only becouse our technicians didn't want to search in registration table according to mac address.

Example use case: Somebody calls them with the network problem. With radius they have to log to our users information database at first, find user's mac address and then find the address in ros registration table. With comments(client number and client name) over radius they only need to log to ROS and find client name in registration table.

Our network is currenly 60 Mikrotik routers so that radius would be great for us.

Or what about to consolidate access list and registration table? Similar to dhcp leases table. Then technicians could simply find row according to comment with client name and then temporary disable that row and see if ap went better. There could be some button for switching view between accesslist/registration table tab (old style) and consolidated registration table tab (new style).

Use mikrotik on client side, and rename the client's radio name. You can see both radio name and mac in reg. table on ap side. I use it for a year with radius, and it help.

You mean I can add clients to access list over mikrotik api? Yes, i can but with radius I have mac accounting.

Not so simple on network with 800 client units and more than 300 of them are old ovislink 5460. It's simpler with mikrotik unit or nanostation unit becouse they can transmit their names but old devices can't.
