Are we talking WLAN or Ethernet here? I was always under the impression that Ethernet MAC addresses are hard coded on the chips on the network cards??

ethernet MAC can be changed in software, as previously mentioned, it can be done in the Ethernet menu. However, if you move that card to another router, it will still have it's original MAC, the change is only in OS level.
