have PayPal, need help from MikroTik consultant

Sun Jun 14, 2009 8:48 pm

A thunderstorm hit a wireless pop and we had to replace RB532 running 2.9.51 with RB493/AH running 3.24.

RB493/AH drops some connections; can't determine why.

Your help appreciated --- please reply to vaden@texoma.net (better yet, call 903.821.7600) if you are ready, willing and able to help.

kind regards/ldv

Thanks for your reply.

The RB493AH serves as a router for the pop, with both upstream and downstream backbone connections and runs OSPF.

The main (but not only) problem we are having is on port 8 of the RB493, which is connected to a RB411 which is a wireless link to a subsidiary pop. From the RB493AH, pings are solid to the RB411.

However, from upstream, pings are solid for moments at a time and then fail for several minutes. During this time, a traceroute to the RB411 will STOP at the RB493.

Here's how a good friend who is downstream of the RB493AH puts it (he's the source of the data of the weather at <http://thunder.wxpro.net:8015/rst/rad/l ... n0rfws.gif>) (note there should be data each minute):
Larry, it's doing it. The wget is triggering it earlier.

thunder stopped receiving files, and my wget started failing
with "no route to host"..

This screams a resource issue.. a kernel tunable possibly.

Bill

sounds like routing issue. try to add static routes between RB493 and RB411 - maybe OSPF fails sometimes for some reason. also, see what happens with routing table during these problems

p.s. what is 'pop'? =)

Thanks for your reply.

pop === point of presence

N.B.: v3.24 was downgraded to previous stable to see if the problem persisted (it did).

This is from the initial configuration (read: we already have said routes if I understand you correctly and they are redistributed with the help of OSPF):
[vaden@ep-gw] /ip route> export
# jun/14/2009 19:45:15 by RouterOS 3.13

if these are initial static routes, and main routes are distributed via OSPF, then make them static for testing. and your routes are useless for us until we know at least addresses of your RBs
