PPTP VPN and windows shares

Wed Dec 06, 2006 8:36 pm

Hi!

The config like this:

PC1 (PPTP client) -> MT (PPTP VPN server) -> SWITCH - > FILE SERVER (DNS)

If I connect to the MT PPTP VPN I get IP address, from a local IP pool, I can ping the file server (DNS resolve is working), but I can't map a drive or simply RUN: \\192.168.0.1\share I get error.
I try the other way from the File server map the PC1 share it 's ok, but from the PC1 I can't map anyhing.

I use: PPTP server - MTU 1460, MRU 1460 (max) default encryption all the pipes on
on the default encryption profile:
Local address: 192.168.0.254
remote address: VPNPOOL
DNS server : 192.168.0.1
USE compression: default
USE VJ compression : default
Use encryption: yes
change TCP MSS: yes

I try the TCP MSS to no or default nothing happens.

I try to remove all the firewall rules buit nothing...

So could you help me?

Thanks,

santajosh

sounds like mtu problem, try decreasing the mtu on the server, or try to adjust it in the mikrotik router.

There is another way,

By using IPSec tunnel and routing rules,

We use this solution for two STATIC nets. so dynamic may not be the best solution...

Butch Evans came up with it for me, so I would need his permission to release exactly how he did it...

Or look him up, he is at http://www.butchevans.com

Baisickly it produces an IPSEC tunnel between two RouterOS devices while mailtaining the indevidual gateways..

You get the tunnell, but also get the indevidual internet gateways,, IE all traffic doesnt have to go back to the hub in a hub and spoke design, but you still get UNC shares etc working via DNS lookup and Active Dirrectory..

Works great, last long time !!
