Need help setting up simple AP

Wed Aug 05, 2009 7:02 pm

I have a RB433 and want use it as a WAP.
I am using winbox.exe to configure.
I do not want to route traffic.
I want to have ether1 on the same network as wlan1 - 172.16.0.0
I have the wireless set up in ap-bridge mode and can connect to it from a laptop just fine but am unable to ping either the ether1 or wlan1 interfaces.

Can someone please help out?

Thanks, Alan

You're connected to the wlan interface and can't ping it?!
Well, in your case you should bridge the two interfaces to make them as one, using an IP address on the bridge interface ONLY if required.

Here's an ex. : http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/TransparentTrafficShaper , you would be interested only in the 1st section, the bridging part.

Hope that helps.

When you say network ID, do you mean same IP address? If you have specific setup instructions it would be great. Thanks.

Hi,

I just setup an 411 as a Wireless AP, I also had issues ping-ing from the wlan1 and ether1 interfaces when I started. I used the following steps to get mine working:
1. Create a bridge (Used Default settings)
2. Added ether1 and wlan1 interfaces under the ports tag in the Bridge menu
3. Added IP address to the bridge address.
4. Setup the security profile and setup the Wireless interface.
