replacing adsl router with mikrotik router with ppoe

Mon Aug 10, 2009 10:21 am

We will be replacing our linksys adsl router with routerboard 433ah,since the routerboard doesnt have adsl port, can I connect the RJ11 to Eth1?
since we are using ppoe, I guess i should be setting up ppoe client on Eth1/PoE of the routerboard with the username and password from m ISP,configure masquerading and setup my eth2/eth3 as my local network, is there any steps i missed? please correct me if im wrong, your response and criticism will be greatly appreciated :D

Hi,
can I connect the RJ11 to Eth1?
No you can't. You need at last ADSL modem (with one rj11 and one rj45 port). Just connect MikroTik to rj45 port of ADSL modem and configure pppoe client on MikroTik's ethernet port connected to modem.

best regards

thanks for the quick response, so what i need to do right now is to set my adsl router into bridge mode so it wont receive any ppp authentication from my ISP and i will set my mikrotik router as a pppoe client with the username and router provided by my ISP, enable DHCP server on Eth2,setup default gateway and masquerading and im good to go,
