Wed Aug 03, 2005 5:37 am

Hi

I would like to know does RouterOS support any proprietary 54G wireless PCI Cards? Examples D-Link, Netgear, Linksys etc

Regards

What do you mean by "proprietary cards"? RouterOS has a list of supported wireless chipsets/cards, which can be seen at http://www.mikrotik.com/docs/ros/2.8/gu ... list#1.2.3...

Why not order the cards ONLINE!? Now that would be neat if you could actually order things over the internet that you could not get locally! /sarcasim

You could run a MiniPCI card in a RB41 adapter.
Many types are online and should work with RouterOS.

If you're still talking about wireless (not Ethernet) chipset: Forget it. It just isn't supported... ;)

Im thinking of buying an SR2 400mW miniPCI for my PC Router. I am just wondering if a PCI RouterBoard 11 support it (note: SR5 - Routerboard 14 /18 not supported) and if my MT PC router will recognize it?

Anybody tried this configuration?

come to think of it, why Mikrotik doesnt carry it? Any known problems/issues we are not aware of?

and also, on Mikrotiks website, it did not mention if the SR5 will work with RB 11?

any explanation would help me decide on what items to buy.

thank you.

(IA/MP4) RouterBOARD 14 Four-Slot miniPCI Adapter

MikroTik RouterBOARD 14 miniPCI to PCI adapter is an advanced four-slot adapterfor 3.3v miniPCI to PCI standard sockets. The adapter is provided in PCI cardform with four integrated miniPCI slots that allow you to use four miniPCIcards in one standard PCI socket. Should not be used with SR5 or SR2 400mW miniPCI!
I hope you can explain it a bit.

Thank you!

there have been many discussions about this on the forum already. so you CAN use one SR5 and for example 1-2 CM9 cards. You probably can use two SR5 cards but nothing else with them. You can NOT use 3 or more of these cards.

This SR5 card does not meet any miniPCI standards, so we put this warning so people don't try to use many cards at once.

To explain a bit more:

The warning and number of cards you can probably use all have their source in the amount of current the SR2/5 cards do/may draw.

This current is more than is specified for MiniPCI cards, so it at least can (and probably will) create problems using too many of them on - for example - a RB14.

There are several discussions in this forum about this topic - including hacks to provide the necessary power via additional power supplies and the like...

Thanks guys!

simply said, using one (1) SR5 or SR2 on any of the routerboards wont be any problem. If yould like to put in more, then consider hacking the hardware for additional current input.

Very well explained indeed.

BTW, I have just signed-up for the OEM program. I wouldnt have done so, if not for the help and support from guys like you, and ofcourse the reliability and excelent performance of Mikrotik.

Thanks again!

Robert S.
