cannot send/smtp big email

Tue Jul 27, 2004 8:55 pm

Dear all,

I just sign in to a wireless internet service, my ISP is using RouterOS.

My computer got a local IP, 10.50.x.x.

ISP Tower/AP -> My Antenna/AP(bridge mode) -> My Computer/Ethernet

Web browsing is okay.

The problem is that I cannot send big email/email with attachment thru the ISP smtp.

If I just send small email (eg. only testing/very short email), it can be sent properly.

When sending big email, using Outlook Express, the sending progress bar will stop at about 25%, and then timed out several times. I cannot even sending 20kb sized email.

I've searched the web, it seems the problem is around MTU?

Please help.

Thanks.

Try to change MTU on your machine to a lower value (for example 1492 or 1472). Refer to http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/280/ for more information on how to do this.

I changed the MTU to 700. The email can be sent, but it is very slow. It takes 3 minutes to send a 150k sized email to ISP's smtp server.

I doubt there is something wrong with signal quality and signal strength.
I will ask about this signal in another topic.

Thx.
