RB433AH+3xR52H can't go over 24 Mbps altogether

Fri Oct 30, 2009 2:45 pm

Hello.
This is a simple setup actually.
I have this RouterBoard 433AH with RouterOS ver. 3.20 and I have three MiniPCI cards inside with three 60 degrees sector antennas.
The POE (first) ethernet is bridged with all three wlan interfaces and my goal is to achieve 3x24Mbps=72Mbps from Ethernet. But this does not actually happen. I removed the device and tested it (indoor) with wlan3 disabled and 2 small omni antennas. When I try to download with one laptop from SSID-01 of the wlan1 the ethernet goes 24Mbps input approximately and wlan1 goes 24Mbps output, but then when I start downloading from the second laptop (connected to SSID-02 of wlan2) ethernet remains 24Mbps approximately and wlan1 and wlan2 start doing some kind of load balancing trying to share this 24Mbps "bandwidth". I tried the same thing with routing and the result is absolutely the same.
So I cannot figure out what the problem is.

try to use another routerboard downloading from the "master" and you will get more speed.

I think the "problem" is in your wlan card.
Using normal mode you can reach about 30 Mb and double if using turbo mode, in TCP, more or less...

In fact I tried using OpenWRT just for test and actually it did work fine - both radios were trying to reach about 24Mbps download speeds using the same two laptops. So I am pretty sure the problem is not with the hardware... :?

When u download from wlan1, does wlan2 show 24mbps traffic aswell?

Since they are bridged, your traffic will be broadcasted to all interfaces of the bridge....Trying routing the network without the bridge

It looks like this:
Laptop1 connected to wlan1 and downloading -> Winbox shows that there are around 24Mbps coming in on eth1 and 24Mbps going out on wlan1 (wlan2 shows around 0kbps).
When I connect laptop2 to wlan2 and start downloading -> Winbox shows there are 24Mbps coming in on eth1 and there are around 12Mbps going out on wlan1 and there are around 12 Mbps going out on wlan2.
In this case if I stop downloading from laptop1 then wlan1 shows around 0kbps and wlan2 starts to climb from 12Mbps until it reaches around 24Mbps and eth1 shows 24Mbps all the time.
I hope this makes the whole test clear.

Try removing the bridge and route each wlan interface separately

....ROUTERBOARD......
(192.168.1.2/24)Ether1<======>Fileserver(192.168.1.1)
(192.168.2.2/24)wlan1<======>laptop1(192.168.2.1)
(192.168.3.2/24)wlan2<======>laptop2(192.168.3.1)

Laptop 1 must have 192.168.2.2 as it's gateway
Laptop 2 must have 192.168.3.2 as it's gateway

That should do the trick

EDIT: make sure your channels are spaced apart...ie use channel 1 and 11

I did make the test with routing as I mentioned in my first post. The config was like the one -headstrong- describes. I even had dhcp server configured with two pools giving out ips to the clients (the two laptops :) ). The result was absolutely the same. :(

Something is not right.....Can the fileserver support speeds faster then 24mbps?

I tried bridging eth1 and eth2 on RB433AH and the download speed was around 97Mbps from the file server (eth1 connected to the file server and eth2 connected to the laptop).

Hi.
Sorry for answering a bit late, but I was upgrading to 4.2 and the result was the same. I also tried R52n MiniPCI boards and
the output I am showing now is with them:

Re: RB433AH+3xR52H can't go over 24 Mbps altogether

Hello.
Is nobody using RB433AH or any other RouterBOARD with more that one MiniPCI slot to utilize 2 or 3 APs in one enclosure?
Maybe someone from MikroTik tried such a configuration in their lab?
Please any advise is appreciated and I am willing to try any kind of configuration that is being suggested.

Thanks!
