Proxylizer VMware image

Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:07 am

VMware image is available for the Proxylizer, which allows you to install Proxylizer on any OS (even on Windows).
More information about VMware image and installation steps,

Anyone get this to work? Maybe I'm missing some steps. Installed VMWare and the Proxylizer image. When I try to access the site via a browser, nothing comes up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can login to the Debian image through the VMware console. I also see the VMware network adapter in Network Connections. When I put the IP address of the VM image in a browser, it fails. I can ping the IP address.

I think the bottom line is, we don't have the proper privileges to make the changes within the Proxylizer/Debian image. Any time I try to change the IP address (or anything else) it says that I'm not authorized. Login is proxylizer and pwd is rootroot.

you should have to be logged in as root to do changes, hence, a bit familiar with Debian linux.

if you logged in as normal user - do $ sudo su

when prompted for password, enter users password again and then you should be able to set address.

also, as far as i know, dhcp client is configured on the interface, so if you have dhcp server by any change you can use that.

have you configured your VMware server or player with networking?

as root, have you ran
ifconfig -a
to see what interfaces you have?

have you checked out
man interfaces
on what you have to write exactly in that /etc/network/interfaces file?

NEXT ??? :)

Ok...

Smacked it in the head, and here is what rolled out...

Proxylizer came up, I can get to the "setup screen for email / report users.
I can see the statistics page... NO DATA,,, the system is not accepting the syslog data from the router.

I have NO IP addresses available.. I guess due to no data...

I cant get to a SQL setup screen... (And the link to the screen shot on the WIKI is broken..) so I cant get a URL to see if it is setup incorrectly...

check your remote logging on the router, make sure router is correctly sending log to proxylizer.

also you can check /var/log/proxylizer/ for logs and see whats there.

How about a pre-built IOS with Debian (or whatever Linux flavor you think works best), MySQL, and Proxylizer configured so we can load it up on a system. That would probably help rookies as well as veterans alike. The biggest thing is, I believe that this is an essential tool.

crontab is missing one entry:

on details where to add it look here:

I take it by the lack of response that the answer is that nobody has been able to get the proxylizer VMware image to work. Sad that something with so much potential just doesn't work.

go to this link:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Proxylizer

and follow steps in getting started, check if all the files are in correct places.
because before archiving image it wast tested and it worked.

if you need help about basic linux configuration:

http://debian.org

as it is debian linux used there.

also, make sure that networking on your vmware host is working properly and is set up correctly.

I can assure you it is working. With information you give i can only conclude that you have not put in any effort to get it working. Sorry if i am mistaken, but then give more information where the problem is - what packets do arrive, if mashine is reachable at all, networking is fonctional and no NAT configuration is used etc. etc.

If you read some of the previous posts, you will see that I'm not the only one having this problem. I didn't build out a Linux system. I downloaded, installed, and configured the VMware Proxylizer image according to the Mikrotik instructions. I added the changes to ROS so that it can talk to Proxylizer. I can ping Proxylizer and access it through a browser. It just doesn't receive data. The interesting thing is no one outside of Mikrotik has come forward to say that they have been able to get the VMware Proxylizer image to work. I have built and rebuilt this setup numerous times all in hopes of getting it to work. So far, no luck.

So I am still looking for someone who has been able to implement the VMware Proxylizer image successfully. Hopefully, then I can get some guidance in figuring out what I'm doing wrong or what has been left out that is preventing a successful setup.

well, if you can ping that vmware guest and connect to it, and it is reachable from router that is sending out the logs, and is set up to send out correct logs, but still no luck on any data in the analyzer.

Check if crontab entries are set up correctly,

run:

crontab -l

to see if you have crontab entries set up. You should be able to find on one of previous posts about what and where you have to set up for that to work.

also, if you downloaded repaired vmware image there should everything be fine with crontab and should work. Please keep me informed of your crontab state, so you get proxylizer working.

1) Daily reports are sent on the next day. If you have created reports on 14.05.200., they will be sent 15.05.2009. Check, if you still have not received anything today after 16:00.

2) I'm not sure about Google's SMTP server requirements. Maybe it requires something, Proxylizer cannot handle. If possible, please try to use different SMTP server. Have you specified SMTP password (it is not displayed in proxylizer web because of security reasons)?

3) Try "once" report - create a new report with type "Once" and Generate time "Generate now". Check if it is generated and sent after 10 minutes.

4) Are just the emails missing, or the reports are not generated at all? Check in report table the column "Action", what do you see when moving mouse over "History"? Does it show "History: 0"? It means "no report generated". In this case something is wrong with report generation scripts. If you see "History: 1" or any other number greater than zero, it means "reports are generated, but no emails are sent"

Seems like this is not an SMTP error, but report generation script issue.

What do you see in files /home/proxylizer/proxylizercrontab and /var/log/proxylizer/mail_send_log.log?

Ok, this seems all fine. Have you executed the commend from wiki:
crontab /home/proxylizer/proxylizercrontab
It tells the cron to actually use this /home/proxylizer/proxylizercrontab file as the config.

You can check, what config is active for cron, issuing the follwoing command:
 crontab -l
Cron uses different config for each user. If you are running shell as root, to check, which config is active for proxylizer user, first you need to switch the user:
su proxylizer
and the the crontab -l thing.

If you see the same content, which is displaye by cat /home/proxylizer/crontab , then cron is using the right config and the bug is elsewhere. Otherwise rerun the first command mentioned here (when you are in the shell as proxylizer user).

The same problem. Proxylizer just shows 0 in reports history. And one more problem - after reboot of mikrotik and virtual machine with proxylizer the last one just stoped to recieve any logs at all. When I refresh the status page the information isn't changing. What the problem can be (I tried the suggestion about crowntab - it's all right).
Before reboot proxylizer was recieving the syslog information but didn't make the reports.

Any updates on the VMWare image and Reports?

I have setup Proxylizer using VMWare Player on a WindowsXP machine.
Database is populating fine.
Report Generator is not generating reports.

The database has been populating for over 48 hours.
Still no reports.

Can you tell me what kind of reports have you created? What date ranges, time ranges? maybe post some screenshots of your report settings

Any updates on the VMWare image and Reports?

I have setup Proxylizer using VMWare Player on a WindowsXP machine.
Database is populating fine.
Report Generator is not generating reports.

The database has been populating for over 48 hours.
Still no reports.
You can read my answer (the last one for a moment, I didn't find the way to give a link to the post here) in this topic. I think it should help you.
