Loosing mangle rules when upgrading 2.8x to 2.9

Tue Aug 30, 2005 10:50 pm

Hello

I will ask again: Shouldn't an upgrade from one supported version to an other, maintain trivial configuration settings ???

If you upgrade from ANY 2.8 to ANY 2.9 you WILL loose all your mangle rules !!!

Please fix it !

You've got a point there - that is why I'm asking.

Basically I don't think that it is ok to sell something broken - even if you write outside the package that it is broken ;-)

You might want to tell that to Microsoft. They've been selling broken products for decades...

Hmmm...

I upgraded my home router last night so I could make a start on familiarising myself with the new version in a 'production' environment.

I had the same experience, and after cursing Mikrotik several times (no offense guys!), I got to thinking that there is almost no way you can take the mangle rules from v2.8 to v2.9...v2.9 is just way too different, what with all the mangle chains you have available. How is the installer supposed to know where to put the mangle rule?

The one thing that would have been nice would have been a temporary import chain, where it keeps your mangle rule, disables it and then waits for you to decide where it should go, whether its pre-routing, post-routing, input, etc...

Anyways...Just my R0.02...

Just to be clear: I did not do an export/import, but entered all rules manually on the 2.9 system... 8)

Neither did I...I just upgraded my v2.8.17 RouterOS to v2.9.1...Would have been nice to have had the mangle rules in a small walled-off section awaiting sorting, but hey...Can't have everything...

Am very impressed with the new version so far...Will have to spend more time with it when I'm more awake...
