RB532, RouterOS 2.9.24, and wireless card

Thu Sep 10, 2009 4:05 pm

Hi there,
I have RB532 with ROS v2.9.24 and looking for wireless mini-pci card.
Question is - which cards are supported for this routerboard(532) and this ROS version(2.9.24)? Wireless card have to work in 802.11g standard. Other standard(802.11a,b,n) are optional, but welcome.
Upgrade to ROS v3 or v4Beta i can't because license was upgradable until 2007/07/01. I read that i can upgrade to ROS v3(i have Level 4 ROS) via netinstall but somewhere gone my console cable(without cable i can't upgrade via netinstall).
Buy a new license i just don't want because current version of ROS satisfy almost all my needs(I'm using this RB for home network and the only one unsatisfaction is this confusion about wireless card).
Thanks for answers.
P.S. My english isn't very good :)

yes, Netinstall will upgrade your router to later version 2.9.51 or v3.28 for free. better find that console cable.

in any case, any Atheros based wireless card will work. Also RouterBOARD R52 is good

Thanks normis.
Anyway, today I found legal(i think) way how to upgrade to ROS v3.28 without console cable.
If anyone interested - I can write :)
P.S. R52N will work? I understand that 802.11n standard will not work without upgrade to v4 but i looking to future

Forget NetInstall...

The easy way is to upgrade to 2.9.43. This version will install because it was released prior to your license expiration and its internal time stamp makes it all work. This version will also upgrade your license file, removing the date restriction. You can then jump to 2.9.51 and then to any 3.x you wish, or 4.x if it is OK. Some 532 boards were licensed with level 5, and they will go all the way to 4.x without a problem.

BE SURE to update your RouterBoard's BIOS with every version jump otherwise bad things might happen.

Where would I find a copy of the 2.9.43 package?

if you can login to the box, just change the bootloader to boot from ethernet on the next boot, with netinstall running, and load the latest 2.9.51 version.
