Virtual AP and VLAN question

Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:36 pm

I have a 433H with a wlan card and running 4-Virtual AP's with diffrent ssid's
I also have a cisco switch with 802.1q support
I have also setup vlan1,vlan2,vlan3 and vlan4 on the 433H running on ether1
I intend to run a cable from my 433H to the cisco switch port1 and configure vlan trunking for vlan 1,2,3 and 4 on cisco port1 and also separate out the vlans on there switch ports.
With cisco I think I should be able to handle the vlan trunking but
With Mikrotik, I dont know how to place each of the virtual AP's on different vlan.
I want to run vlan on the 433H such that clients connecting to each virtual AP will be on different vlan's

Anybody with relevant clue
thankx in advance.

I don't use MT wireless, but wouldn't you just create 4 bridges and use them to bridge the VLAN interfaces to the virtual AP interfaces?

Did not work
I think the vlan trunking on cisco was the one giving me problems
Anyway, I have dropped the Vlan Idea and now I'm using EOIP
And things seems to be okay for now
I think I can say the mission is accomplised now
Thankx all for your contributions

Hi beepee & anyone else who needs vlan's on the virutal AP's. I have done this recently & it works great. Follow the steps to configure & it should be fine:
1) Configure VLAN interface on the ether port you connect to the switch for each vlan ID you need.
2) Configure the number of bridges required that correspond to the number of VLAN's you need
3) Add the ports to the bridge: For VLAN1 which will be on Virtual AP1 for example - you add the Virtual AP1 to the bridge & Interface VLAN ID 1 to the bridge. You don't add the ether port to the bridge!
4) Follow the same procedure for each additional VLAN you require. VLAN2 add Virtual AP2 & Interface VLAN2 to Bridge2

It is that simple, you then need to tag the port the Mikrotik is connected to with the relevant VLANs & you are cruising.

Cheers
