What hardware able to deliver 2G pps using mikrotik?

Tue Dec 01, 2009 1:30 pm

I have a client which doing bgp with to my router . At first setup I'm using RB1000 and he use Mr C 7206 with npe400. But when he know that I use RB1000 he ask me if I also have a Mr C device. And yes I have my old unused Mr C 7206VXR with npe 300. And he prefer doing BGP to my Mr C. So I replace the rb1000 even it hurt my feeling since I know my rb1000 running better than my current Mr C :)
And now this customer will upgrade their C device with 2G port and he ask me if I can upgrade my device too. And I plan to use mikrotik since it simplify my life :)
But I do not know what device which can deliver 1G-2G pps using mikrotik.
Any idea ?

BTW, I ask my client why he refer to connect to my Mr C device rather than my RB1000 and he said that he THINK RB1000 has a lower max concurrent connection .
Is his statement right? I try to check the internet about this but i can not found any information

Thank you

I found this on the Cisco web site.

Q. What is the maximum packets-per-second (pps) performance of the Cisco NPE-G2?
A. Based on 64-byte Ethernet frames, the Cisco NPE-G2 can achieve up to 2 million pps of Cisco Express Forwarding, doubling the performance compared to the Cisco NPE-G1. For more detailed performance information, also with reference to features and services turned on, contact your local Cisco account team.

That looks to be about 5 times faster than the RB1000.

The PowerRouter 732 at $1400 is faster but but still looks to be about 50% of the Cisco.

Why does your upstream require an equal router? That is an unusual request.

Or do they want Cisco so they can help support you with the BGP setup and configuration? (a common request)

Actually, this is my customer, not my upstream. And he want me to use better hardware or at least same performace with his router just to make sure there will be no bottle neck in the network even I know and sure that he will never use the maximum of his router capacity.
But what can I say, he is one of my big customer, i'll do anything to make him happy :D
