SIP Proxy inside Router OS VM

Tue Dec 15, 2009 1:06 am

Anybody has thought of building OpenSER to run inside a Router OS VM?

What is the smallest CPU that would support this?

on what architecture you want to run it? if on x86 boxes, then all you need is x86 installation and CPU that supports virtualization (AMD-V or intel VT-x)

As I see this, I have two options:

a) Metarouter support for OpenSER on Linux inside a MetaRouter VM - then it would work like OpenWRT on an Aetheros RB ?

or

b) Get an VT-X embedded board and purchase RouterOS X86...

What's my best bet?

There does not seem too much evidence about VT-X on X86 being a success... does it work?

well, it is matter of choice and preference. KVM and Metarouter both are solid.

How would one go about making a build of OpenSER for Metarouter such as to be able to run it on a VM inside a routerboard ?

Is there documentation for this?

Has anyone attempted to build a third party image for booting into Metarouter?

in KVM wiki page there is link where you can find out what CPUs support needed technology.

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Kvm

Also, in wiki that version number mentioned are for all the the commands that work, since version, KVM was introduced before version mentioned.

So when is Mikrotik coming up with its own RouterOS board with a CPU that would support VT... i.e. Atom? Or Athlon Embedded?
