Hi guys,
A quick question of mine with yet another request between the lines..
After discovery of devices in a DHCP environment I think it would be very convenient if discovered devices could than be monitored by hostname (which in this case is not equal to DNS-name.. [much longer usually]).
Example:
After a discovery run I have a device called PC0001, with DHCP IP-address 10.10.10.100 at the time of discovery, it's DNSname would be PC0001.mydomain.net.
Due to the DHCP lease being set very short, the device loses the 10.10.10.100 address when it's turned of for about 3 days.
After turning it on again it gets IP-address 10.10.10.101
It would be convenient if the device could be pinged by it's hostname instead of the lost 10.10.10.100 address.., since it has lost that due to turning it off and DHCP lease time, yet the device is up and running with another IP-address.
Adjusting the settings in the general tab for DNS lookup from address to name and MAC lookup IP to MAC is still giving me double entries in my list of devices.
When it's possible to ping a host by hostname PC0001 it would show the correct IP-address of 10.10.10.101
Anyone with solutions or is this a new feature request?
Regards,
Minollie
