Yet another FTP Problem

Wed Sep 21, 2005 1:16 am

After looking through the FTP threads and taking their advice, I'm finally to the point of asking the community for feedback.

I recently just placed a few Mikrotik routers at my NOC. Everyone loves RouterOS, so do we. Once we placed a RouterOS machine (both are non-routerboard, just PC's) we noticed that the ftp servers that exist on the same subnet as the router will timeout/disconnect once a listing of the FTP server is executed by any client, passive mode or not.

A few details about the network to help you understand how i'm all configured. My noc has its own subnet (32 Ip's) and then I forward the rest to another router to be split off for their various needs. The gateway is our new routerOS system. It has not only a IP for the noc (which is also the gateway IP) but also an IP in the seperate subnet of our other router (the one which the rest of our ip's / subnets are routed to) in case some routing goes weird at the noc i can hopefully still access it.

So we have:

[NOC Gateway - RouterOS] -> [another Router] -> rest of network

Noc has its subnet, Router has its subnet, rest of network has their own subnets. The Gateway router shares an IP in the same subnet as the other router. We clear, good.

Okay, when the Gateway router replies on my side of the network (not the internet side) it responds using the IP from the other routers subnet --

Could this be why ?

BTW, when i FTP into the other router subnet ip that is on the gateway, all works grand. No problems. When i FTP into the IP on the noc's subnet , i duplicate the issue.

Hopefully i've been clear -- i understand my issue is complicated at best.

Thx! If you'd like me to post some example Ip subnets using private ip ranges i'd be happy too.
