No support for linux.... Windows is for losers.

Fri Mar 19, 2010 5:01 pm

I can telnet into the device through linux and control everything. I want to update the bootloader / firmware and then only way I can do it, is through windows? No documentation for upgrading on linux?

What a useless product if you can't even use it with linux, for that is what it is created on! WTF!

RouterOS is upgraded by uploading packets via FTP and rebooting router, you have FTP client on your linux machine right?

If you complain about tools like winbox and netinstall, then install wine. We are using winbox on linux every day without any issues.

Push upgrade firmware files via sftp/ftp to the root file system, reboot to install. If there's new firmware available, it can be activated through the OS itself after the upgrade.

FWIW, losers are the people who cant pull their heads out of their asses and realize that a proper, usable network is most likely going to be comprised of both Windows and *nix machines. The marriage of the 2 operating systems is where its at. Each has its strong points. Use them.

Yes, I can see this thread turning into 'well X is better than X' because 'X'. . . maybe the sysop can just lock this before it gets out of hand : )

Thanks for the info via sftp/ftp and all these tools work fine with wine, except the dude, which I can't get working yet on fedora 12. At least this product is good. Not bad support, user group and the features are awesome. This is like Cisco without the bs.

The confusion in your wiki, leads you to believe by webpage that your tools are the only way to install OS upgrades. After you click the link, it explains you can just use FTP. Logically that doesn't make sense Mikrotik Wiki organizer.

It would make more sense if you had a section OS upgrade.
Then just listed the Options, since you don't have to use the windows tools to install the OS.
