Problems with hotspot. MAC duplicates??

Sat Apr 17, 2010 9:52 pm

Hi all,

I have mikrotik with hotspot + pppoe. My clients get an ip by dhcp, and then they can visit hotspot or make a pppoe connection to access to internet.
I want to ask if it's normal that the same client get 2 ip address. Here I show you what it's happening. 192.168.182.x it's a range for hotspot. It's normal that one ip address is repeated 3 times?¿? Hackers?¿?

Don't run Hotspot and PPPoE on the same interface. As per Mikrotik staff it's not recommended, and not supported.

This seem a bad configuration. I have some node running PPPoE and HotSpot on same interface.

Please post your complete config (xxxx for privacy) and complete devices diagram...
ROS version = ?

As you can see on the image, your IP have marked as D (dynamic) and as H (DHCP), same MAC.

You probably have in hotspot servers - turned on adress pool , (and also dhcp server on same interface)... swich to none

Hi,

The ROS version is 3.25 and the actual config is below. Please let me know if you find mistakes or errors, because I'm getting duplicate MACs again. Access Point is configured in bridge mode.

Attached is actual configuration. Please let me know how can I solve this problem.

Best Regards.

The config seems right.

The client are ALL computer with integrated WiFi or also Wireless Client with some PC connected?

Check if you have same behavior setting addresses-per-mac=1 on hotspot and/or arp=enabled on hotspot ethernet.

Why use add-arp=yes option in DHCP Server? You manage static ARP?

All the clients are ALL computer with integrated WIFI.
I disabled dhcp-pool on hotspot interface and it's working, so I have dhcp server on hotspot interface and NO dhcp-pool on hotspot servers tab, so let's see if the duplicate mac continues...

I have addresses-per-mac=2 on hotspot interface because I'm getting strange messages like this:

Mar 25 20:40:30 192.168.2.90 hotspot,debug hotspot1: dhcp host 192.168.182.33 removed: limiting addresses per mac
Mar 25 20:40:30 192.168.2.90 hotspot,debug hotspot1: dynamic host 192.168.182.34 removed: limiting addresses per mac
Mar 25 20:40:31 192.168.2.90 hotspot,debug hotspot1: dhcp host 192.168.182.33 removed: limiting addresses per mac
Mar 25 20:40:31 192.168.2.90 hotspot,debug hotspot1: dhcp host 192.168.182.29 removed: limiting addresses per mac

I get LOOOT of these messages, so I think that it could be a problem with WRT54G that it's not working like a real bridge or ... hackers???. I'm testing increasing addresses-per-mac to see if solve the problem. I know it's not a good idea to set this value higher than 1. Have you seen these messages before??

Yes, I use add-arp=yes because I use static ARP, for example, I use for AP WRT54G.

My QOS queues configuration is right? it can be improved to give the lowest priority to P2P???

Best Regards...

This is a problem.
For some ragion, the Mikotik box assign multiple IP to same MAC.. can you tray another AP or a WLAN integrated on the Mikrotik box?

I use mikrotik box as a server and WRT54G as APs (bridge mode), so I will try to test another AP or change WRT54G for MK APs.

One last thing, I would like you could look to my PCQ queues config, it's right configured or not?
I'm trying to give the most priority to DNS and WEB and lowest to P2P.

Thanks very much for help.

I have used identical network layout (external AP via Eth) and work fine with PPPoE+HotSpot...

I suggest you to open a new post for this ;)

Yes, you hard limit alla traffic matched as P2P & company, but you need a better deployment of parent/children queues and PCQ uses (I think that are wrog for DNS limit to 5k in PCQ...)
