Can't access secure sites (https://)

Tue May 04, 2010 6:10 am

Hello. I have my first Mikrotik router (RB750G) after giving up on the Netgear, Linksys junk.

I've read the Wiki and other posts but can't locate a solution to my issue. I can't access a secure site (https://) from any of the computers. I get the "Webpage can't be displayed" message. I'm wondering whether Mikrotik is blocking access or whether I don't have something enabled?

Any help would be appreciated..

Thanks!

Check your firewall filters to see if you're blocking anything, or if you're proxying things that can't be proxied.

https issues can be related to MTU as well. What type of internet connection do you have ?

fewi and ciphercore, thank you both for your help.

I checked the firewall filters and nothing is being blocked, at least not intentionally. For the rules, I have the "default configuration" (allow established connections, etc).

For the connection, we're using a cable broadband connection.

If you temporarily disable all of the firewall filter rules, do https connections succeed?

Are you running a hotspot or a proxy server on the router?

Are you doing NAT/masquerading? What rules are you using to accomplish that?

If I were you, I would:
goto (in Winbox) Files ->Backup (Backup current setting)

After the backup
goto : New Terminal
type "setup"
pick option "r"

The router should reboot with a default config for the 750G (DHCP client on ether1, NAT and DHCP server on ether2)
(you may need to release/renew ip depending on ip settings)

IT should work fine with this barebones config. If it does build on that.

or as missinlnk is saying... we may need more info (export firewall filter / Nat/ Mangle... network layout.) Maybe we are missing a detail.

SOLVED! But not intentionally.... I upgraded to the latest version (4.9) and rebooted the router. After doing so, I was able to get into the sites.

Thanks all for your help. I will give you all Karma for the help :).....
