Hi there its my first time on this forum...
I think its going to be very useful from now on

So i have a question
I want to take my routerboard 450 and use it like a normal router

So I want to have the first port to get internet from my modem (PPPOE (iBurst))
And I want the other 4 ports to be the 4 lan port the could access the internet for my modem (port 1)

Also only the first port reponse to winbox i can i change that
I am very new at this and I need some help

The default configuration of the board is just like you want it, so nothing has to be changed. Just plug in the cables, set to DHCP or "Automatic IP" on the client machines, and it will all work.

If you want, connect with Winbox and see what config is applied.

I dont know waht i am doing wrong but its just not working...

you probably need a DHCP client on the first port, and a DHCP server on the rest. Post your configuration. What do you have in menus:

This should not be on the same port as your PPPoE. It should be on ether2.

So ether1 should be for your PPPoE (pppoe-out1)
ether2 will be for LAN (192.168.88.1/24)
You can setup ether3-5 to have a "Master port of ether2)
If you want DHCP server for LAN. Add one on ether2 (not required if you are doing everything static)


For NATing/masquerade

I would suggest reviewing this page: http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/2.9/ip/nat.php

Something like this is what you would need.

/ip firewall nat add chain=srcnat action=masquerade src-address=192.168.88.0/24 out-interface=pppoe-out1

I have done exactly want you just told me...
But the modem is still not making a connection???

does anybody know if there is anything different in the pppoe client configuration for iburst

how do I setup the microtek router so i can connected to it using winbox trought eth2...
because i can only make winbox connect in eth1 and thats were my pppoe modem is connected

Well... I would then take the mikrotik out of the picture.
Confirm the DSL setup and working.

DSL modems can also act as router (modem does PPPoE and hands out private IP). For this setup, you would want it in bridged mode.

How was this all setup before the mikrotik ?
Was it direct to a pc ?
Was it going to a router ?

oh yeah the modem work when plug in directly in the pc
or even in a WRT-54GL Linksys

but i wasnt able to make it work in the RB450 yet
I am working for an iBurst ISP and we would like to use routerboards for our future projects
but I cant seem to make it connect yet???

When directly connected to the PC...did you need to make a PPPoE connection ? or did it just work ?

yes i use a pppoe connection when i connect the modem directly to the pc...
works in windows and ubuntu

or if i setup the pppeo conection on the linksys WRT54GL then of course i dont have to manualy dial a connection

but I cannot make the RB450 connect yet???

To be clear.

Does pppoe-out1 connect, but you cannot surf ? Or does it just not connect ?

Also what is the MTU set for the connection ? (pppoe-out1)
Maybe also try clearing the 450g and adding JUST a pppoe connection to see if it connects.

This is from iBurst regarding the wireless modem.

How can my MTU settings improve iBurst performance?
MTUs are critical when using iBurst. Connectivity in a networked environment requires MTUs set on the router and the network interface ports.
iBurst is based on PPPOE & default Windows MTU settings of 1500 can't be used, and should be adjusted, even if problems are not experienced.
Correctly set MTU will prevent packet fragmentation resulting in degraded connectivity. The recommended MTU for iBurst is 1392. For stand alone USB or PCMCIA please set the Dial Up Ras MTU to 1392 . Set MTU for VPN to 1364.

I am still not getting the modem to connect... at least I think so...
I am getting frustrated with that router...

I wasn't able to make the iburst connect with the RB450
So I plug it in a WRT54G
Now I can get the connection so is that possible to connect the WRT54G to the RB450

And make it like i want it in the first place... which is connect the internet to the first port and have 4 other port act like a switch...

And no its doesnt work by default
Do I Need a dhcp client and server, a bridge... I am confused

after trying everything and was still not wokring
erastus coetzee suggested me to skype him so he could help me out

we found out the my firmware wasnt working properly so we downgraded to 4.10 now its works perfectly
