AR5004x and tx-power

Sun Aug 15, 2004 9:35 pm

Hello.

The tx-power settings may be set to a value between 0 and 23 or "default" - HOWEVER "default" = max power ouput. Why ?

hello gete,

because system will not mess up with settings provided by manufacturer - and you can bet manufacturer knows more about that card than you and me will ever know :) We tried to mess up with power output settings on both sides of many links - we NEVER gained more throughput. Yes, singla strength indicator was showing more decibels, but the throughput was lower - that "strength" was not clean enough. That said, we always leave power output at default level.

bye, mp3turbo.

When you change the default tx-power to greater value then there are some more noises in left and right of the true signal (at frequency 5800 MHz in turbo mode this means between 5780 MHz and 5820 MHz). When the tx-power is default these noises are very low. Maybe in 5004x the power amplifyer is very good and the manufacturer set the default tx-power to the max value

hi asm,

do you have any spectrum analyzer pictures available? I'm interested in... because we would like to optimize used freq. as much as possible. So far, we count 40MHz for turbo channels and 20Mhz spacing for normal ones, if it could be lowered to 30MHz, it would be nice. Oh yes, I don't want to play with settings on live system...

thnx, mp3turbo.

I don't have pictures. But I could make some for you. But I must say that every power amplifyer has different noise picture. For example the 60mW a+b+g card has is has about 100 MHz noise in left of 5800 MHz. I mean there is a noise from 5700 to 5780.

hi asm,

if you would be so kind - I'm very interested in those pictures. Hmmm, 100MHz you said ?! Makes me angry...
