I have discovered from my email server logs that many commercial email servers are limiting the number of emails per hour from/to the same address. About two or three an hour is all they will accept. If you go over that, the email server will refuse to accept the email immediately. Since it is delaying 10-20 emails per day, I presume that is your challenge.

ADD: And it could be they are having trouble with a DNS server.
