ideas to split speed for users profile in hotspot

Fri Sep 03, 2010 9:58 am

I have ADSL line with 10Mbps download and 640kbps upload. I want to divide users speeds using hotspot user profiles to fallowing speed 150kbps, 300kbps , 450kbps , 600kbps. The suggestion that I am asking is for the upload speed.

for example, Is this good
Tx / Rx
150kbps / 10kbps
300kbps / 21kbps
450kbps / 32kbps
600kbps / 42kbps

it ok but you should consider the number of online user that max you should worry about it

the total of user online is always lower than the download speed but might little exceed the upload

There's a great slideshow/presentation Janis did at a MUM a while ago detailing how to setup QoS using the mikrotik PCQ queues.

It goes into a fair bit of detail on giving different levels of speed to different users along with having a proper QoS tree as well.
If it weren't for something like this you'd really need 2 routers to handle per-user and total-link-bandwidth based limiting.

thank you omega-00 but I think the slide help who want to divide the internet equally between the online users. But I have different speeds that set from hotspot profile.

I read that in rate limte in the profile you can fill rx-rate[/tx-rate] [rx-burst-rate[/tx-burst-rate] [rx-burst-threshold[/tx-burst-threshold] [rx-burst-time[/tx-burst-time] [priority] [rx-rate-min[/tx-rate-min]]]], so I was asking is it enough to just fill rx and tx rate as fallowing:
Tx / Rx
150kbps / 10kbps
300kbps / 21kbps
450kbps / 32kbps
600kbps / 42kbps

Do I need to set burst-rate, burst-threshold or the burst time? I need the user to always have his specified speed.

The slides are for someone who wants to limit users to their set speeds, but also control the QoS for traffic coming in and out of those users.

As for the profiles, it is just enough to fill in the rx and tx rate values.
Eg:
/ip hotspot profile
set default dns-name="" hotspot-address=0.0.0.0 html-directory=hotspot http-cookie-lifetime=3d http-proxy=0.0.0.0:0 login-by=cookie,http-chap name=default rate-limit="" smtp-server=0.0.0.0 split-user-domain=no use-radius=no rate-limit=10k/150k
Remember the RX value is traffic being received by the router (what the end user is uploading) and the TX is the rate being sent by the router (what the end user is downloading).

Hope this helps!

I already have hotspot profile with the mentioned speed. I just set rc/tx rate without setting burst-rate, burst-threshold or the burst time. I was asking this because I notice that 150k user get 160-170k but I guess that normal
