RB1000 and RouterOS = Pants

Fri Oct 01, 2010 3:11 pm

I thought it would be a good move going from a cisco 2651, but i was wrong.

randomly my RB1000 will drop all BGP sessions (and stay down), its doing it every 2 to 3 weeks, all the way thru v3 and v4.

Only a reboot fixes it.

I cant have my AS drop from the face of the earth again, what are my options, back to cisco? are there other products that can handle a full table in 1u?

Some ppl here are quite happy with ROS 3.20 I think - others go for various ROS 4.x

Look around a bit in the forums, there are a lot of discussions involving BGP related behaviour.

Edit: A rather wonky workaround would be to restart your RB every night at 3 am by the built-in scheduler when nobody notices.. ;)

I was thinking about that, but the idea of downing the entire AS every night is not to my liking, plus if its f's up, i'm going to have to get up a 3am to go to the DC, bad times.

I've asked my upstreams to have a hold time of 15 minutes, if i could write a script to email2sms me when all the BGP sessions are down, that'll give me 15 minutes to find a computer to bounce the router, else have a script that bounces the router when all 3 feeds are 'HoldTimer expired' and connection terminated

Make a supout.rif when you're having problems and email support at support@mikrotik.com. If it's an actual bug in the BGP process there's nothing the community can do, and you have to get the developers involved.
