WinBox Suggestion: Make Undo/Redo Buttons More Visible

Fri Oct 29, 2010 1:05 pm

Trivial, I know, but had the undo/redo buttons been more visible in WinBox, I would have surely taken advantage of it.

I suggest adding the words "Undo" and "Redo" to the buttons, and move them to the right, so they're positioned above the work area, like this:
RouterOS Undo Redo New.png
I've already added it to the bottom of the Not Yet Implemented section of the RouterOS Feature Requests list on the wiki so you can add your vote, but thought I'd post here as well, in an effort to drum up some quick interest in it.

I'm also interested to see how many others didn't spot this in WinBox and didn't read about it on the Wiki. Hopefully I'm not the only one. :)

While I'm at it, check out the idea I added to make detailed undo/redo history:
Detailed undo/redo history for WinBox
--mattx86 10:59, 29 October 2010 (UTC) - What about making the undo/redo buttons act like the back/forward buttons in modern web browsers: you click undo or redo and get a drop-down list of undo-able or redo-able actions. Also, although it's weird that undo/redo actions are available even after closing winbox and reconnecting with winbox, I suppose that's a useful feature - but I think it would help to know what exactly you're undoing or redoing ahead of time.

Undo redo is available after login/logout because it is not winbox specific feature. RouterOS remembers last actions listen in "/system history" menu and can be undone from winbox, console or api.

about new winbox usability:

1) all child windows are impossible to move outside the left and top border of WinBox window; in v4 you may move it wherever you want;

2) in all text boxes, double-clicking no more selects all text in that box; very annoying...

@mrz: Interesting; I didn't know that. Still, it'd be nice to have it available from the undo/redo buttons, and it seems like half the work is done already.

Edit: Just checked out the System -> History window and although it lists the same information as /system history print, there's no way to add the time column like you get with /system history print detail, nor can you undo a specific history item from this list.

@Chupaka: Now that you mention it, I haven't been able to double-click to select everything in text boxes either now... :( Also, I can see why it may be useful to move child windows outside the top and left borders.

for example, in wide window you need now just last columns. you move it left, so that only necessary part is visible. or simply hide window temporary, because you can't minimize it in WinBox...

I agree about text selection, very annoying. any other annoying stuff that I could file as bug?

resize and scroll.
as I said, it's just about usability. I need to glance to underlying window, I drag top window to the left - and it stops suddenly. I need to drag it bottom, see the data and drag back (even without releasing the mouse button) - it works, but that 'freeze' at the left border diverts from the work and confuses a bit...

I should add that you can no longer highlight text past the bottom of the winbox terminal window (when scrolled up) while highlighting and dragging.

actually, I'm unable to do that on v3.28 and v4.2... but it would be nice feature

when one open a rule in IP -> Firewall -> Filter or NAT and press 'Copy', the request "Do you want commit all the changes before copying?" appears. even if nothing was changed. annoys =) this is not observed in Mangle tab

Really? I could've sworn that was doable at least in some version of 3.x, and maybe even 4.x.

I've seen that as well (although I haven't tested it out like that).
