Winbox for Linux

Thu Dec 15, 2005 4:36 pm

Is a Linux "winbox" interface available of planned? A full Web interface would be fine too. We would like to move most of our field laptop to Mandrake+KDE. So the graphical interface would help speed the learning curve for the techs.

You may use Winbox in Linux with Wine configured.

It works flawlessly in Wine as though it was designed with wine in mind. I run Crossover Office so I dropped the winbox executable in the windows directory and made a shell script to place in the ~/home/bin directory so in kde I merely type "winbox" in run and it opens up. I could easily create an icon as well. If I need to update winbox, I simply overwrite the winbox binary by using IE6 in wine and downloading winbox to the same place and say yes to overwriting. BTW, your system looks in your ~/home/bin directory before it looks to the rest of the system so personal installs of Firefox and so forth to your home directory work well as long as you link the main executeable to the bin directory.

Winbox does work and look good using wine. I downloaded winbox from the MT router's webpage, and from the bash prompt typed:
wine winbox.exe
and it came right up and worked. Here it is on my 64bit Athlon Suse 9.2 box. This is not a dual boot or anything like that - a pure linux workstation.
