RouterOS 5.1 is out!

Fri Apr 08, 2011 6:20 pm

What's new in 5.1 (2011-Apr-08 12:55):
*) ipsec - fix SA lifetime display when timezone offset does not equal 0;
*) ipsec - now default DPD interval is 2 min for new configurations;
*) webfig - make bandwidth-test work;
*) fixed problem - wireless package got disabled after upgrading from v4;
*) sstp - fix problems on multicore systems;

Nothing yet.

It's the typical 4-5 hour wait between the time they release it and it actually becomes downloadable.

No success on torrent, no success on web. Maybe this is a "early" release :)

It is not possible. The changelog didn't say anything about such changes.
How it is possible to introduce bugs into the code when some one is hacking away on totally other part of it?
It does not show bugs as accidents of coordinated programming, but chaotic messing with the code. Too bad.

Hi,

On download page, there is a dropdown list described 'Please choose download site:'.
Select 'Latvia' instead of 'USA' then download.

I upgraded to 5.1 and am still having problems with the wireless radios not working. I have been able to get the 5.8 mhz radio working but the 2.4 is not showing up. It looks like it is activated but it is not broadcasting.
Is anyone still having radio problems after upgrade to 5.1 ??

After clicking Webfig icon in welcome page, it displays "Loading" and a progress bar. The page never loads.
It happens on a RB750G using OpenBSD 4.9 and Mozilla Firefox too. It hangs on the "Loading..." page as described on this thread by other customers. No way to access webfig for me either.

edit: same on demo2.mt.lv too; tested with Gentoo Linux and Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Chromium.

Does the same for me on a RB450G.

Note: Should this not be RouterOS 5.12RC and not 5.1 Stable? :?

shouldn't you also use "stable" browser not 5 year old browser with hundreds of bugs? ;)

try Firefox 4, Chome 11, Safari 3, Opera 11 or any other browser from this century.

If there's any help here is result of a telnet to port 80, and then just hit ENTER:

Well, we use what is "released" with the OS... So far Fedora is not putting out Firefox 4... and Chrome 11 shows exactly the same problem...
I know it hurts to have a bug like this in a bug fix... But I really don't like being told that there is a work around ( even in jest ) and it doesn't work either.

Upgraded RB1100 to 5.1 worked fine, earlier problems with switch-chip and vlan are now gone.

RB800 (two of them) crashes every 30 second with kernel somthing. RB493ahg stopped responding (haven't checked this with console yet)

But on the brightside several RB450g worked fine.

All units upgraded from 4.17 or 5.0 and all packages without gps, ups and ipv6 enabled. All units with almost basic config.

Sergejs! I'm _always_ send detailed support request, and _if_ problem serious post here to prevent mass problems.
(a little bit upset)

In some cases if MT team not respond, and the problem important to me also post, but after a week or so.

But now i post, because sometimes devices unable tor reach with winbox (because this is a desktop tool(need graph terminal), and because windows only/okay okay run under wine/) and if anybody lost control of their device, will be a great problem.

I also send 3 of other tickets also unanswered, but not discussed here. Some of this tickets appeared in forum as bug report after i send support request from other users (mistake, forum is not official support, but now users can't see detected problems submitted or not -- a public bug reporting system welcome)

If i wrote a support request always get 3 types of answer:
1, problem is a hardware limitation (but this limitation never informed before)
2, "please test it in this situation" (but seems the problem reproducible) I really think: all report entered to PEBKAC state and after anyone could prove this problem is a real problem might be change this status)
3, problem reproducible, working on solution (but if completed this task not informed)

In this situation: This problem related to switch chip and i report a support request(first reply: please give a packet log(answer type 1) and after "yes reproducible, works on" (type 3). After two week silence i post here, and Normis promise looking into it. After i receive a message from Krishteins, this problem solved in 5.1, and ask i want to test pre release before release? I answered: yes, if possible.
After that i not received pre release, receive a release (5.1).
Im really happy, and will test it development environment. I found this console bug, immediately write this post above, and submit support request to mikrotik some delay after because i want to send supout.rif but generation never ending.

(p.s.: vlans seems to still broken, but cannot test it)

This is normal. HTTP does expect ou to isue a GET, not just a CRLF after connecting. This technically IS a bad request.

For the most basic HTTP 1 request telnet to port 80, then
GET /
Enter

;)

Download link http broken...

I have sent memory leak and unusual behaviour of MK reports to MK support though. Ticket numbers #2011041066000044 and #2011032666000151

I had a happier life with RC and beta versions of 5! As I have different HWs with lots of concurrent PPPOE users, I think it would be a good idea for you guys to be more cautious on upgrade though there is really no earlier stable version of 5 supporting multi core CPUs.

I see most of people upgrading to test the new v5 look for wireless features.

Here with RB450G, the LAN-LAN speed dramatically goes down from about 40-50Mbit to 3-4Mbit. I go back to 4.17

I had an issue with ROS 5.0 where when a hotspot was on a bridge with wlan and ether ports, some laptops would not see the hotspot. (no login)
Anyone know if this is fixed? I cannot test as it only happen with some (especially Vista) laptops, and the hotspot in question have many paid users with partially used vouchers.
4.17 works fine, but I need to upgrade soon as the uplink is nv2 ready.
With upgrade we'll have to bite the bullet but I cannot aford to upgrade/downgrade in case of troubles.

Upgraded an rb800 from 4.17 with 2.30 firmware to 5.1 and radio board is completely unstable. It drops pings to the router it is plugged into has Kernel failures. Found "" as the current firmware and after a reboot it would show 2.30 and after another reboot it showed 2.29. had to take it to 4.17 after it hard locked and had to go powercycle it at a tower. Ticket submitted.

Had similar issues with another rb800.

Re: RouterOS 5.1 is out!

Tue Apr 12, 2011 8:38 pm

Upgraded an rb800 from 4.17 with 2.30 firmware to 5.1 and radio board is completely unstable. It drops pings to the router it is plugged into has Kernel failures. Found "" as the current firmware and after a reboot it would show 2.30 and after another reboot it showed 2.29. had to take it to 4.17 after it hard locked and had to go powercycle it at a tower. Ticket submitted.

Had similar issues with another rb800.
The 2 RB800's that are giving me problems both have child AP's off a dedicated card using WDS.

I found that if I change the child AP to station WDS the reboots and dropped packets stop. I'm not using NV2. Just straight .11A
I upgraded about 5 other APs to 5.1 with no issues the same time yesterday but none of them are using a WDS bridge.

Hope this helps MT guys, please advise.

Aha!
The problems I had with Hotspot on bridge (ports=wlan+ether) is also that the wlan is on WDS with another AP-bridge...
Maybe that is the issue... WDS!

So is anyone using 5.1 with WDS and VLAN over it?... Ap Bridge>Bridge, Bridge>Bridge, AP Bridge> WDS Slave, Bridge>WDS slave? If so Board and Cards?

When issuing /export on the terminal it's completely locks up the terminal, both inaccessible on serial terminal or the winbox terminal, also cpu load goes sky rocket into 100% and stay on this state forever unless a hard-reboot(plugging off the power manually), iam on 450g.
Yet the internet access, filtering & logging pretty lag down to 5-15% when this happening.

Flashfig and webfig are also broken with 5.1

webfig seems to work perfectly on 5.0

Thank you very much for the reports about sup-output and /export.
We have found the problem and working on the fix, it will be fixed in the next RouterOS version.

5.1 also definately have a problem with bridging.
I have RB493AH
to
SXT via LAN port
the SXT have bridge with the LAN and wlan as ports, connecting to a RB493AH+R52Hn

Ping times even to LAN is erratic, from 5-20ms, ave 15ms.
Winbox times out/disconnect every few minutes.
SXT is just a link between the two routers, the 'local' one via LAN, the 'remote' one with wlan.
removed the bridge, made two subnets and just routed it and all is fine, LAN pings 0 or 1 ms again.

Also a small bug with MAC telnet.
If I IP telnet and then close window, try to MAC telnet, it gives error MAC TELNET 192.168.0.2 (last IP), bad address. So it it trying to use the previous IP as a MAC address, not the MAC I typed in.

I 2nd this. I was having ether pings drop and kernel failures on an AP when it had a WDS bridge off one of the cards. Switched child to station WDS rather than WDS slave and all problems went away. MT please give us some assistance with a fix! Thanks!

I agree. 5.1 should not be used on an 800. I am going back to 5.0 I have 4 APs that have had Kernel failures. Not good not good at all.

5.1 on a 750G

Connect via ssh/telnet and type "interface ethernet switch ?" and ALL(!) ssh/telnet sessions will freeze instantly.
No new ssh/telnet session possible, traffic keeps flowing through the box. Only solution I've found so far is to power-cycle the box. Can anyone confirm this behaviour?

In version 4 the torch window had a separate column for dest and src ports. Since version 5 it is combined with the address. When you use torch to research connections, it is very hard to see what is going on because of that.

Is it possible to add back the the two columns so that the ports can be displayed clearly and sorted by?

We asked this before and were told that Mikrotik would look into it. I talked with other users and they all seem to agree that it is missing.

Just copy the downloadlink for your device, paste it in your browser and change the version "by hand", e.g. from http://download.mikrotik.com/routeros-mipsbe-5.1.npk to http://download.mikrotik.com/routeros-mipsbe-5.0.npk and press enter.

Just upgrade my RB1100 with v5.0 and try webfig.
the configuration only "ip dhcp-client" and "system ntp-client"
and the traffic on the eth interface quite high (about 100K); not like what normis show us on MUM in Jakarta. I watch it about 5 minutes and it still stay above 100K and no winbox loaded.

Just had an issue where RB493AH after about 5 days uptime with ROS5.1 stopped responding i.t.o. login.
Could not log in via Winbox, Telnet, SSH nor API.
Traffic still flowed though.
Subsequently could not make new supout and a road trip followed by hard-reboot was only option.
I see there is an autosupout, sending to support...

Just need to be sure - can I upgrade from 4.1x using wireless-nv2 package to 5.1 without having to install wireless package separately?

We had this problem before when upgrading - if wireless-nv2 was running the upgrade to 5.xxRC ignored it leaving wireless disabled.

This is exactly what happened to me (5.1 on RB450G) just I did not realize that in fact the last command was interface ethernet switch ?

Those rules would also block all return traffic to 192.168.1.114, since the source IP of a return packet would be whatever 192.168.1.114 contacted in the first place. Either also allow all traffic with dst-address=192.168.1.114, or - preferably - higher up accept all traffic with a connection-state=established and connection-state=related.

The same here in serial console, ssh and winbox terminal too. Profiler says the "console" process is eating up the CPU.
Additionally I have the bridging problem (very slow LAN-LAN speed [~8 Mbits/s on gigabit]). Hardware switching speed is about 220 Mbits/sec instead of full line speed.

When trying to run a snooper from the Wireless Tables interface dialog (v5.1 and 5.0), RB800 reboots and first log message after reboot is "System rebooted because of kernel failure"

This does NOT occur when the individual wireless interface is opened and the snooper is run from there. It only occurs when the Wireless snooper button shown below is used.

Image

Webfig does not get to login screen when trying to load on this RB800. Using version 4.0 Firefox.

I have reverted to 5.0, will await 5.2 :)

I cannot create a supout.rif because console process hangs during creation. I think it's related to the console bug mentioned before.

The throughput bug can be reproduced by creating a bridge that contains all ethernet interfaces except ether1 which is the WAN port. The WAN-LAN connection is working properly (the internet connection's maximum speed can be reached, in my case ~20 Mbits/sec), but LAN-LAN speed is below 5 Mbits/sec between two hosts that are connecting via gigabit line.
The switching speed problem can be reproduced by setting up slave ports (ether3-ether5) and ether2 as a master port. In this case the ether1 was removed from the hardware switch and used as WAN port. The maximum LAN-LAN speed with this setup was ~250 Mbits/sec. With the legacy ROS (4.10) it was ~600 Mbits/sec with bridging.
