PPPOE SERVERs - DO NOT upgrade to 2.9.10

Thu Dec 29, 2005 8:59 pm

Today I upgraded our AccessConcentrator to 2.9.10. There were a lot of bugs. Half of the users were getting addresses=0.0.0.0. There were a lot of users logged in more than once ( e.g. 5times). A lot of radius timeouts...

I really think that there are real problems with 2.9.10 and pppoe connections. Any other observations?

I am using 2.9.10 as pppoe concentrator but we do not have such problems, our problem is with browsing stopping frequently for 5-10 seconds.

You can enable one session per host in pppoe server. That solved our problem of multiple logins for the same client. We do not have radius time out, make sure AAA is enabled in ppp.

well, I've enabled one-seesion-per-host. I have also enabled ppp in aaa. That were not the problems for sure.

Something other that I noticed is that with about 350 connected users and 300Mbit traffic going through the MT it was loaded to 100%. I think that the network traffic and lots of ppppoe connected users was loading the router and I think it is a problem of 2.9.x versions. I downgraded to 2.9.6 and the results were same.

After again downgrading to 2.8.28 - Everithing cleared.

I hope in future releases of 2.9.x these problems wil be cleared.

One thing I had noticed was the pppoe pool for clients, earlier I had two pools and it created a problem for me, after I made a single pool for pppoe clients, my multiple login problem cleared up along with use of one session per host.

My problem was with disturbance in the problem.

Do you change MSS of your pppoe clients, if yes, then please let me know, it has been eating my brain. I suspect MSS is the root of problem for my issus in browsing

In general I'm changing the MSS only of some of my clients. I think it is a problem of some LAN cards. There are cards that don't allow packets bigger than 1500bytes. The problems for my clients come with some sites (most often with sites that use Microsoft technologies , like ASP). I think that some scripts need bigger than 1500bytes packets and there occures the problem.

About my problems with pppoe clients and 2.9.10 - I did set one-session-per-host. It wasn't the problem for me.
