Why doesn't RB750UP contain gigabit eth1? This solution is only for small country side AP, not for heavy load :(

Becouse if they add 1Gbs uplink it will make a perfect machine for our UBNTu radio sites :)) .

Why USB port? 8x ethernet is better feature... :((( .

But still the RB750UP seems to be the best news (depend on the price later...) - still the rest news are almost no competition for UBNTu wireless allinone products (AirBeam, GPS Sync, ect. ... ).

why RB2011 five Fast Ethernet ports? Why do not all like the Giga Ethernet RB1200?

Bad RB

Why does RB751xxx RSMA connectors?

unreal
what? RB751 has optional MMCX connector, but antenna is built in. read more carefully

Sheesh, mikrotik releases all these cool new products and people just complain about them. Sorry, they can't make everything have gigabit and quad-core processors for $100. I for one am glad to see a dual-core processor and tons of options now for routerboards that have more than 5 ports. 2 years ago they only had around 2 or so? Now there is half a dozen. Pick the one that fits your needs and budget. Also, the new 1W router looks very appealing to me and that does have gigabit! I kind of wish the one with POE out had gigabit though. Hopefully it has a better temperature ratings than the regular 750. Overall, I am very pleased to see Mikrotik pushing ahead like this, way to go guys!

Hi Normis,

Is there also going to be a RB1100 AH X2-style Board with SFP onboard sometime soon?
To be honest, I actually assumed that these higher class boards would be
the first to be outfitted with SFP :) I know of absolutely nobody who would need a low-cost SFP CPE...
FTTx is just way too uncommon...

Now that was unexpected :) I didn't know that FTTx is common anywhere in the world right now ...
Well, now that you put it that way, it of course does make sense...
Still, any plans on incorporating SFP into the high-end routerboards?
If I might make a wish, please include 2 SFP ports to be able to use
the Routerboards in a Ring topology (1 in, 1 out)

Really appreciate all the new products, but I'm still missing something like 413G and/or at least 433G SFP (1 giga eth+poe and 2 sfp) or 435G SFP. We want convert all roof installations to fiber optics.

Looks like playing LEGO...

"Hmm... Lets see. I have a really good product idear: Take a green one for the 100MBit-Interfaces. Oh we have new blue ones for POE-distribution. I 'll take one of this. Now I want to have one for a metal case and a connected shield for ethernet... Oh, no one there then we will take the white one for the plastic case... = RB750UP"

Why the hell I shielded everything to prevent EMI and terminate the things on a LowCost-Plastic-Router? Please spend a metal case or at least some shield contact to the RJ45 ...

I am realy sorry for this harsh critic (I am a MT-OS fan) but I am really disapointed about the new products. I expected something like RB 1200 with some SFP slots or something new in wireless like GPS sync or FDD 5Gig. Instead I see some new "battle places" like the CPE for FTTH. MT where will you go? Wireless? Professional routing/switching? FTTH?
Eliminate 10 fires at the same time with one tube will not be successfull.

Re: New Products

Sun Mar 13, 2011 8:44 pm

I do like the products that MT has announced as many solve some great problems, but I do have some criticisms.

I wish Mikrotik would stop putting so many mPCI on a single board. Any more than 1 radio per frequency results in a hostile RF environment inside the case. I've got some 411AHs with 5 GHz radios inside a single box, but they're all mounted on separate sheet metal that's perpendicular to the back wall and spaced about 8" apart. There is no direct line of sight between any of the boards and the spacing helps reduce ambient noise.

Also, I was thinking the RB750UP would have been more appropriate as an RB450UP, and a RB490P would be even better yet. Sites where you have many radios need the higher capabilities of the 400 series. Also, a serious operator would have at least 2 backhauls for redundancy, so 6 ports would be needed. I will admit, however, that I'm not certain where the 400 series should end and the 1000 series or an x86 should begin. The RB750UP may be useful to power multiple devices such as cameras, phones, etc. where you don't need a lot of data manipulation or throughput. An RB450UP would probably be the minimal I'd put at a tower where I'd have to contend with various rules.

The RB751x would have been better as an RB751xP (well, a single powered port, anyway). You would then use that single box to power the outdoor CPE.

To build upon what I talked about earlier, maybe the RB1200 is the new best for the standard tower router, though there should be a P option as well. We'll have to see what the 1200's performance ends up being. From what I hear, the 400 series doesn't have the balls for a tower site that has a good amount of traffic and firewall\mangle\etc. rules.

The 1100AHx2 needs SFP ports, plain and simple.

How are people doing Metro-E? Are they doing East - West or just using passive splitters at the curb? Can standard Ethernet cope with passive splitters? That would dictate how that product gets used.

None of the rest of the products really interest me.

Come out with an updated price-performance comparison.

No idea about other countries but here:

FTTH deployments are generally Passive Optical (and currently not that common)
FTTB deployments are generally Active Optical (BIDI or some other WDM tech) and generally do not have any redundancy, in the odd occasion when it has been redundant it has been dual fibre with redundancy handled by MPLS.

Great new products!
RB750UP great feature "Controllable PoE out" like someone said for power up some IP cameras, great!
I just wait for the RB751U but moreafter the second one RB751G for my home, you read my mind about this product. :D

BUT about RB2011 great rough design, it's missing something... i think making coffee! I don't see the use of the wireless  in this awesome looking rough router. In my country i have too FTTB but FTTH is not accesible for home users like this router is intended to be for.

Although more pro's then con's! :D

in this case, is it depend on the input power?

can we use the 24VDC 3A switching adapter in order to make sure i have sufficient output power for the bridge?

Appreciate for you sharing..

600mA/port means 14,4W at 24v. In the data sheet of the RB433AH maximum power consumption is 25W and 16W to cards.
sorry, if you use just one R52Hn with the RB433AH should be in the limit.

Wow guys, if you put the price of the RB751, RB751U and RB751G at almost the same price as RB750 or RB750G, I'll buy a lot... I was dreaming about this day long time ago.. lol

The RB2011 is a nice one!!! if I have a lot of time (for testing) I'll use it for fiber connections, I hope the CPU and memory of that one will be great!!

The groove and onmitik will be a great option for change some nanos, and I hope those can will be a/b/g/n, but if they only b/g/n will be nice too, lol

For the RB1100 series, well I need to try one, but you guys have some troubles with that series... so I'm skeptical to use them... maybe someday I'll try one

:D :o

Hi Janisk...
I got what you mean, Ethernet 1 poe in is also the source for the Ether2~5 poe out.

But, the power adapter purchase from Mikrotik is 24VDC 0.8A, when i use it to connect this product and power up 4 other's bridge (connect to eth2~5).

For sure, there is no sufficient output power for it, can i replace the original power adapter purchase from mikrotik with 24Vdc 3A power adapter to provide sufficient power for the bridge.

The PoE out options need alot more info guys!

What standard is it going to be based on, If it's not 802.3af then can it be used to power RB4xx with 2 high power cards on each port? If it's 802.3af then it wont be compatible with current RB's so do you plan to release a up-the-pole ethernet splitter to feed non-802.3af devices?

This device will be great for remote sites with 3-4 RB's but it's going to need some power grunt to be useful.

Re: New Products

you can use PEXT or POE to power the POE out router. It is similar to 802.3af except, auto feature will start work with less resistance than set 19KOHM set in standard and it will power 9 to 28V devices.

Limitation is that you have 600mA on port, so if you use 28V PSU you will get 16W on the board, whilst using 10V you get just 6W for the board.

Also - you can turn off POE out, if you know for sure that port does not require power and "on" when you want to power device that auto function is not detecting

So basically, you can only output 600mA to the 4 output ports when using a 24v POE. But if you use a higher voltage for the input, then you can output more to the output ports? This could be a harsh limitation. One reason we might use this is to put one up on top of a water tower. Then we could run one cable up to the 750UP and power several devices from that. However, because of the 600mA POE input limitation, we might be able to only power 1 or 2 devices. Is that correct? I suppose you could always hook up a power supply end to the power pins on the ethernet cable.

Noticed in the MUM product .pdf a lot of the items say May or Next Month.... (Namely the 711-2hn and Groove) Are we talking "May May, October May or January May" :D

I know it's hard for anyone to give a circa or near circa date but any info in terms of shipping on the above items would be appreciated and great.

I'm sure others here would find the info useful as well...

600mA is per port. Higher the voltage at same current you get more power. So, if you use 24V PSU each attached board will get up to 14.4W

it was intended to power small devices, something like RB411 with high power card, SXT etc.

(usually one high power card consumes around 7W at MAX consumption)

Hi Mikrotik, i believe most of us is more happy if This product can power on 4 unit RB411AH with high power wireless card for more efficient wireless network performance.

Wish to have a good news from you soon.

it was intended to power small devices, something like RB411 with high power card, SXT etc.

(usually one high power card consumes around 7W at MAX consumption)
So whats the point of this unit then? It's more useful to your client base to be able to power a site from it thats running 4 x RB4xx with multiple cards in each. Something you can't do with this product. I can think of a dozen different uses for this device in infrastructure and very few on the client side. Just like the RB2011 MT fails to understand it's clients again. Most of us dont need a SFP slot on a CPE we need a SFP slot on a high power router

Re: New Products

Whats with all the negativity.

All these products are a step forward for Mikrotik, some like the SXT, Groove and 2011 are a huge step forward.

Sure, they may not perfectly meet everyone's requirements but they have been designed to reach a mass market by meeting most peoples needs and being affordable.

It's also good to see Mikrotik are making products for three distinct market segments "Engineered Embedded", "Integrated Solutions" and "Indoor & Rackmount".

I still hold hope for a Cavium based "core" router from Mikrotik to allow us to use Mikrotik in environments that are currently Cisco and Juniper territory, but for now i'll take what I can get.

I would like to see a 7xx "mast-mount-reday-device" with selectable routing or switching mode. With grounding & ESD-protection, space and connector for backup battery. Looking at Ubiquiti sucess story your will mention that the time for "hand-hammered"-solutions is over in many countries. From my point of view I would pay more or this device cause I will save a lot of time and I am faster in base station setup...

isn't that SXT you are talking about? :) It's basically an outdoor RB711 with shielded ethernet and mast mount

Normis,
I believe the RB1200 has an additional serial port. Maybe others, like the RB800, but is it possible to have a DB9 connector knock-out fabricated on the back case in the production models? All you really need is that, a ribbon cable and idc connector and a bulkhead db9 connector, right. So a little knock-out would work great.

One last question...

Are we to expect a 2Ghz Version of the Groove the same time the 5Ghz version ships? ......... Getting tired of putting 2.4ghz client systems together.

As I stated earlier, multiple cards in each radio just isn't a good idea. The 2011 may have a place once I figure out a fiber model that will work in a limited fiber count environment. You are correct, though, that MT needs something akin to the RB1100AHx2 with nothing but SFP ports. Hopefully this product will come in their next product release. What else are you going to hook the 2011 to now but an expensive Cisco or Juniper switch?

RB750UP is kind of useless if you have gigabit at the base like me :D One port should be gigabit. I keep seeing all kind of soho products from mikrotik. I will keep making my own poe switches till I'm old. I have 5 links over 100mbps each and gigabit fiber on my tower. It seems that mikrotik is making products for those that offer 512kbps rates service and 20mbps(5x4mbps adsl lines) backhaul for 500 customers. Anyway a tplink switch with management and sfp + 8x100mpbs is only 50$. So why should we bother with an underpowered RB750UP? It will have a share of the market still.

We run 2 or 3 card setups and find that the high power cards dont like to play nicely but it works and you can do things to help avoid issues. You'd be crazy on a 10+ antenna site to run RB's for each radio

Wow guys, if you put the price of the RB751, RB751U and RB751G at almost the same price as RB750 or RB750G, I'll buy a lot... I was dreaming about this day long time ago.. lol
I wonder if the price of RB751 can match Ubiquiti Networks AirRouter?

Hey, how about changing the DB-9 serial connector to a RJ-45 configured the same way as Cisco so I only have to keep one serial cable that's common throughout the industry...

That would be nice. Not so much for the connector as I carry a serial cable anyway, but because you can extend roll over consoles with copper ethernet cables. Awesome for gear that's mounted in a hard to reach location - run an additional network cable and you have console access without having to be within 50 ft of the equipment.

We now have RB435G in stock, SXT in stock, and a few RB1100AH left in stock (we have been selling them for over 1 month).

RB1200 coming in about a week.

More products should be coming in May.

Give them a chance. They are pedaling as fast as they can. :)

Why does Mikrotik have this phobia against releasing 10gbps hardware?
It disappoints me to think that I will have to move away from the Mikrotik brand to get 10gbps.

Do you need 10gbit of routing or just the link interface, Given that MT's having issues with the RB1100's pushing gbit levels of traffic I doubt we'll see a 10gbit router out of them any time soon, in the mean time if you just need the link interface then buy a SFP switch and hook a RB800/RB1100AH/x86 router to it

Within 1.5 years I'll need 10 gigabit interfaces. The core would need to route at least 40 gigabits of throughput. That's about 10x the currently available MT interfaces and almost 10x the currently available x86 router capacity.

Are you seriously expecting that vendor which is oriented on very low cost mass deployment hardware, will make a core routing systems with cost 500$ or even 5000$ ? Capable of 40g :)
If you are a carrier go buy juniper or cisco for core routing.
Why everyone here is complaining that Mikrotik does not do this does not do that …..
What are you expecting from such a small company? They are doing affordable, extremely low cost equipment, about 10 times cheaper then same class equipment from competitors…
Not everything at once :)

Many WISPs are starting to join the big boys club.

I have been using Mikrotik products since the RB500 series, so I have been there with everyone else. Many opportunities will start to develop for me soon because of the relationships that I've forged when building my WISP.

I wouldn't consider the type of router mentioned above as a carrier router. A carrier router in my book would have 100GigE interfaces and support terabits of throughput.

You want that kind of router from Mikrotik with cost 6k ? :)
Are sure that you will buy Mikrotik router capable of 100g which will cost 1 million or even more? You will not!! So stop complaining and use MT equipment where it’s suitable.
Mikrotik is perfect solution for small ISPs or any size WISP, they are also gaining share in enterprise market. I have customers with 300 RB/750Gs used for branch offices, it’s perfect for this purpose.

There was mention of a RB750 with PoE out. RB75UP or RB750P, I've seen different references to this product.

When can we expect it?

Thank you Normis.

Now for the big question: Will the RJ45 connectors be shielded, or will they be unshielded as in the picture?

You want that kind of router from Mikrotik with cost 6k ? :)
Are sure that you will buy Mikrotik router capable of 100g which will cost 1 million or even more? You will not!! So stop complaining and use MT equipment where it’s suitable.
Mikrotik is perfect solution for small ISPs or any size WISP, they are also gaining share in enterprise market. I have customers with 300 RB/750Gs used for branch offices, it’s perfect for this purpose.

$6K? Seems like a good deal for a 10x 10GigE router. $1m is excessive for that other router.

I'm glad MT does what they do, but a lot of WISPs are putting on their big boy pants. At that point someone has to go to Cisco or Juniper.

Hi, i just found a new Mikrotik product. Its the RG/750GL

Here is the link: http://shop.meconet.de/artikeldet.php?p ... tub3mefaa1

Is this a replacement for the RB750G? How is the performance? IT has double RAM but only 400MHz CPU for the same price.

I found this on streakwave as well. They have the datasheet for it. I bet this will make some people happy and some people not so happy. http://www.streakwave.com/ItemDesc.asp?ic=RB%2F750GL

RB750G was removed from http://routerboard.com/
So it looks that 750GL is replacement for 750G.
Slower CPU but more memory and additional powered USB port.
IMHO ideal product for SOHO market.

So why USB port is visible on photo on routerboard.com and is also mentioned in Quick User Guide?

Please, don't make people fool :D and fix documentation.
BTW, with USB this RB will be much better.

Hello

I have some questions about RB751U and RB751G
(i viewed http://www.mikrotik.com/download/share/generic.pdf)
BUT
do you can write what difference between RB751U and RB751G
and also do you can describe more detailed hardware characteristics for RB751U and RB751G
(processors, memory, wifi chip and other ?)

Another question - USB port can be used as backup 3g wan link (for 3g usb modem) ?
And do you plane in future make new version RB751G + build-in 3G modem as one of WAN interface(WAN 1 - Gb Ethr POE, WAN 2 - 3G ) -it would be great!

I think that is a safe bet.

I am told that this one might possibly make it out this month (June). The other Atheros based new products July or August.
When should we see the RB1100AHx2 available in the US?
Late this year on both RB1100AH and RB1100AHx2. More shortages at Freescale. Remember the RB1100 delays? Be happy that the RB1200 PPC comes from a different source.

So the best RB solution for a Level 6 licensed rackmount with flash storage allowance at this time is the RB1100?

I think you are correct there.

The RB1100 has a microSD slot. The RB1200 does not. Both do have onboard flash so it depends what you mean by flash storage.

There are also MFM third party rack mount solutions using RB450G and RB493G routerboards and both of these have microSD flash slots. The RB493G also has a USB socket. Both come with Level 5 licenses.

Hmm, I think I'll wait ... Is a L6 license transferable if purchased seperately?

I have an RB450G and an ESXi server, I could load a RouterOS VM and install the L6 License and use it for my needs, then when the RB1100AHx2 comes out, I would not have need for the VM, so it would be nice to transfer the purchased L6 to the RB450G.

Also if I have 1 RouterOS VM active, and 1 cold backup, could I utilize the same license as long as I don't have both up and running at the same time, or would I still need 2 licenses?

Yes, MicroSD is what I was referring to, I was thinking about utilization of Web Caching and Metarouter.

Licenses cannot be transferred around. They stay with the device that they are installed on. However, you can move an x86 license to another x86 box by moving the hard drive, or flash drive that it was installed on. That is one of the reasons to install an license on a reliable medium like flash drive.

I'm not a big fan of web caching on flash SD drives. I think hard drives make a better solution right now.

You do not want the RB751G specifically because it has 400mhz and 23/64mb ram? That has nothing to do with minipci and usb. The RB751G has usb. It doesn't have minipci, but it has a powerful 802.11n radio built in.

At a guess, I would say that it is because Mikrotik operates in a competitive market and do not want their competitors to find out about future products before they are in production.

The last official word from mikrotik was "April"

I am extremely interested in the RB2011.
  • Any idea on the release date?
  • What L2MTU can be expected?
  • What throughputs/performance can be expected?
  • Will it have OAM capabilities?
  • Will there be a non wireless version?

RB750UP was promised for May shipping, right? There have been no updates from MT in the last two months. Are we talking August, September?

I hate the idea of putting more money into Tycon Power switches to light up additional sites. But I need to be doing this in the summer with full foliage.

Can Mikrotik please give some semblance of when this product will ship?

Will there be redundant power possible?

I hoped to see the SXT 20dB antenna in list.
It would be perfect! sigh :(
Yes a higher dbi antenna would be nicer.

will be in the future something like this?
[*]2 or more Gbit ethernet interface with at least 1526 byte L2MTU
[*]1 minipci port (or 1 integrated 802.11n MiMo radio module normal or H version)
[*]no moving part (so no fan)
[*]around $200 price
We thinks that this is what a professional wisp need to have today to provide a good internet service to it's customers...

Will be also a fiber version?... no I don't wan't ask too much! ;-)

Good work!

750UP

Thu Jul 21, 2011 11:48 pm

I sure hope you guys make it by August for the RB/750UP. A couple questions if you can answer them Normis (or whoever):

- Will it have the 400mhz processor speed, or the faster RB750G-style processor?
- Will it have a higher temperature rating like the RB750GL?
- Will it have a 30V DC tolerance, or just 28V?

thanks!

Randy

RB750UP will have 400MHz CPU
It will work with 28V PSU, as that is not max limit.

Will it work above 28v then, which we often need in solar sites?

This RB750UP should have DC block input terminal.

Running a long cable going to POE IN and supplying the other port (POE out) would strain the solid AWG24. Its cheaper to run a single cable from your room to the roof and short cable connected to ether2 to ether5 to power any POE device.

Can it be sold without the Adaptor?? :)

I prefer putting the DC source near that RB.

about what voltage you are talking about? If you are powering 7series or 4 series RouterBOARD from that solar panel, RB750GL will definitely work.

And i can answer only some technical details, as i have no information about how they are going to be sold and what package will include.

will RB750UP metal connectors for ESD shielding? To put to use shielded cable cat5e.

Currently you have no protection against surges Ethernet ports. Very bad.

Ubiquiti client currently supplies kit that is protected against ESD. SXT gets plastic POE. What?

+1.

I feel your pain.

To add insult to injury, when we compare performance of SXT with UBNT Nano M5 or UBNT AirGrid we see the UBNT kill the routerboard every time with it comes to throughput. My new pops look like the attachment. RB for connecting to existing MT backbone, RB750 for running hotspot etc, but UBNT rockets facing the customers.

It breaks my heart doing this, but I'd rather be broken hearted with money in the bank than have a happy heart and no customers.

eben, what? it's common knowledge that mikrotik nv2 outperforms ubnt devices by a good margin, even the AFMUG Backhaul Bakeoff proved that: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r253380 ... E~start=20
Results are on page 9 and 12 of the PowerPoint slide pack. Roughly double the performance of a Rocket.

and ESD? will ever be supported by you? I have to buy another one bracket, and other PoE to SXT. That's a lot more money on. The first time a storm damaged the RB.

It's time you guys have a MUM in Cape Town so that people like Eugenevdm and I can take you into real world scenarios and show you how the products perform "in the wild".

most of our products have 12-16kV ESD protection on both ethernet and RF ports.

rzirzi

You must use shielded cable. UBNT Toughcable is really good stuff.

The next thing that you must do is to take the shield / ground on the shielded cable to ground. If you are using UBNT PoE injectors (and the building has been correctly earthed) and properly terminated shielded cable, this is easy. However, if you are using MikroTik or TPLink PoE injectors, it's not that simple.

We solder an earth wire onto the shield on the PoE injector that we then take to ground ie to an earth point.
IMG_2854 (Medium).JPG
In this specific case, shielded cable will run from the PoE injectors to the client facing equipment while there's UTP inside the case. The RB750 doesn't have shielded connectors, so it's actually pointless running shielded cable those last couple of cm.

... a direct strike will destroy the device...
Two rules that I follow:

1. If it gets struck by ligthning - even if it's still working - ewaste and replace.
2. If it's been burned in a fire - even if it's still working - ewaste and replace.

We suffer from the same problem where ethernet ports fry after storms, recently down under we've had 6 units fry their Ethernet and this is professionally installed and grounded :) Not from direct strikes but from strikes within a couple of km's from the CPE

I'm not buying them. People buy them, and they could stop you know? You can eat bread with butter and ham or only with butter. As easy as that.
RB711 is one of our most successful products, and we sell it worldwide in very large numbers.

If you do have any issues, please contact support and we will try to help you in your specific case.
