Hello,

Thank you for the new release.

I am sorry to be the first to complain but webfig still behaves very strange.
After a correct login it appears:
ERROR: Router has been disconnected
Reconnect
and it does it many times... but if I simply reload the page it shows the correct webfig interface.

RB450G ROSv5.4 Google Chrome

Also I have noticed that the graphs still disappear after some 5 minutes after the reboot causing the lost of all previous traffic history.

Thank you.

Regards,
Z

Chupaka - you can do that now, in webfig look at the skin designer

yogii, open webfi and click "design skin". remove all unneeded elements, and save with a new name, then open "system users" and make a new group that has access only to the new skin.

yes, webfig can be customized and also translated now. this feature will only be available for webfig, but it has most of the features of winbox, it's almost identical but works faster

then you, probably, need new 'webfig' security policy - to allow access via webfig and disallow access via webbox... because webbox is still available: http://router_ip/cfg . security hole?

hello master,

in mikrotik wiki ping tools page, site says packet size value is 64 bytes by default.

but its different when i test directly, ping size is 56 bytes?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if no response is received within 1000ms, ping will show as "timed out"
would mikrotik team change default value 1000ms to 2000ms or more? it will be difficult for me to monitor between my connection and my isp, i cannt distinguish actually my connection is time out or ping response more than 1000ms.

webfig skin is not a security measure, it's a convenience feature to get rid of unneeded stuff

Hi guys,

TCP window scaling for outbound traffic is still not working well. It still not increases as it does without MT router.
Due to this throughput on high latency networks are very bad. It was partially solved in 5.3 pre-release, but it looks like its a bit worse in 5.4.
Without MT router: window size is 15083 (throughput is ~50Mbps)
02:57:28.472021 IP debian.41439 > *******.www: Flags [.], ack 15162677, win 15083, options [nop,nop,TS val 229785438 ecr 2217274565,nop,nop,sack 3 {16777197:16777597}{16772853:16775749}{16764165:16769957}], length 0

MT RB750G router (bridged interface nothing special): window size is 753 (throughput is ~1.5Mbps)
03:00:19.428143 IP debian.36092 > *******.www: Flags [.], ack 16660689, win 753, options [nop,nop,TS val 229828178 ecr 299801442], length 0
*) fixed RB450G, RB750G switch chip slow Ethernet problem;

Problem with Queues.

We upgraded a core router from 4.x to 5.4.. The router (HP ML310) has some simple queues to smooth trafic flows.

Soon after the upgrade we had a number of reports of specific web sites being offline or very slow loading, for example http://www.monarch.co.uk

After some investigation we found that Http traffic from this site would not pass reliably through Any sort of simple queue, even if that queue ha unlimmited bandwidth set. No other traffic seemed to be affected. Turning all queues off solved the problem and allow normal http access to that site.

System was downgraded to 4.17 and queues reinstated, problem is resolved.

Anyone see this or has more infomation. Whats new with queues in the linux?

Same here with queue trees. I have an "http/https" child queue in queue trees, and for the first time I'm seeing dropped packets in the queue. All other 7 queues have 0 dropped.

In a RouterBOARD RB333 with 2 XR2, upgrade to version 5.4, is the system was stable, I wanted to activate the advanced mode in the configuration of data rates and the RB restart and could not enter again, I had to remove both XR2 and I could access, I went back to version 4.17 and restore a previous configuration before reinstalling 2 XR2

Dear Norman,
Does it fix the accumulated user manager problem ???
It is no good for us to upgrade the ROS to this level, but the userman has out-of-function.

No revenue generated from this userman v5.x !!!!! :(
We can not control the fly-in users !!! :(
All voucher get un-limited, and no revenue can be generated !!! :(

Please do send the fixes to the new released version.

Thanks.

With the ntp package disable ntp-client seems to be missing in the winbox menu.
'With the ntp package enable both ntp-client and ntp-server shows as expected in the winbox menu.

Configuration from CLI still works nicely with both alternatives.

Seems to be a problem on rb333, rb450g and rb433ah so i guess this is a general feature. ;-)

O!

Some problems on RBs could be caused by not enough space on the flash. Please uninstall the unused packages.

Checked and should not be a problem. Anyone else who lost the ntp-client setting in the winbpx menu with the ntp package (ntp-server) disabled?

Yes my NTP client item is missing in winbox on 5.4 on my 750G. Also it seems when doing an `export' command that the NTP command is there :

set enabled=yes mode=unicast primary-ntp=150.101.112.134 secondary-ntp=203.171.85.237

Also note in 5.4 that playing too much in the Terminal window(copy pasting etc) seems to cause text corruption that can only be fixed by closing the terminal window and reopening..

When NTP package is disabled, SNTP client is used, it's in a different menu, called SNTP.

Yeah I noticed, but earlier you could still use ntp-client while the ntp-package was disabled, i didn't notice the sntp choice feather down in the menu.

my fault.

SNTP client and NTP client have different functionality and features, that's why we keep them separate.

this code in v5.2 is ok but in v5.4 is ko. Why?

script is not send rx/tx-ccq
/tool fetch url=("http://192.168.1.1/ccq.php?rx-ccq=".[/interface wireless registration-table get 0 rx-ccq]."&tx-ccq=".[/interface wireless registration-table get 0 tx-ccq]) keep-result=no;

I edited the code is not allowed because the question mark, but v5.2 is allowed. Why?
Script does not send values, but to send V5.2. The v5.4 is sent to the terminal but does not send the scheduler.
/tool fetch url=("http://192.168.1.1/ccq-".[/interface wireless registration-table get 0 rx-ccq]."-".[/interface wireless registration-table get 0 tx-ccq].".php") keep-result=no;

The first problem is resolved. You can not enter Alt +92 lomikto but only on the keyboard. ok

but

script in the scheduler still does not work.
/tool fetch url=("http://192.168.1.1/ccq.php\?rx-ccq=".[/interface wireless registration-table get 0 rx-ccq]."&tx-ccq=".[/interface wireless registration-table get 0 tx-ccq]) keep-result=no
request to the web server looks like this
[30/May/2011:15:55:23 +0200] "GET /ccq.php?rx-ccq=&tx-ccq= HTTP/1.1" 200 17 "-" "Mikrotik/3.x Fetch"

After upgrading 4.13 to 5.4 is the RB450G he wants nothing more. After I removed the power off and then connect it works again for several minutes.

You can't use numbers of the items to get data. Find should be used instead.
For example
[/interface wireless registration-table get [find name=wlan1] rx-ccq]

done... thanks
/tool fetch url=("http://192.168.1.1/ccq.php\?rx-ccq=".[/interface wireless registration-table get [find interface=wlan1] rx-ccq]."&tx-ccq=".[/interface wireless registration-table get [find interface=wlan1] tx-ccq]) keep-result=no;
But why the original script works in v5.2 but not v5.4?

what you have changed but not written?

This behavior is in all versions. It might work previously if items were printed before calling get.

Running on my Test-RB133c3 without problems so far.
Seems to be a very CPU-efficient Release.
Even NV2 doesn't kill this tiny board.

Great Job!

Several of my routers won't let me in on ssh anymore after upgrading to Ros 5.4.

The ssh service is responding, but it replies "permission denied", when logging in with telnet and checking the log there is no trace of the ssh attempt in the log.

The first ssh login attempt.
user@x1:~$ ssh -l admin 192.168.xx.51

Hey ojsa, please try to login with SSH from another host on A DIFFERENT NETWORK.

It looks like your connection on port 22 is being redirected somewhere. :)

Tried to login with another username than admin and that showes in the log so I think the connection should work.

I haven't changed anything of routing, acl or firewall rules since this problem occur.

Hi Mikrotik,

may be you want to shed some light on the new feature

"advanced rate selection".

Thanks,
Stefan
Yes, I can't find any documentation on this nor do I see any changes in my rb's if I try both?
Can we have explanation what both options do and when to use it?

At a glance some other day ...

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... cy#p264958

About SKINS ... nice feature. I`ve been playing a bit with it, cleaning Webfig to fit under an Android 2.2 browser ported to a X86 netbook (EeePC 900). Seems usable at those ipod like tablets. Nice toy to use on tower top :)

Re: RouterOS v5.4 released

Yes, I can't find any documentation on this nor do I see any changes in my rb's if I try both?
Can we have explanation what both options do and when to use it?
At a glance some other day ...

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... cy#p264958
Not giving too much info on how it works and performs.

How is the algorithm changed compared to legacy? What mechanism is changed. MT, any more info please.

"advanced rate selection"

legacy is the same as it was until v5.4
advanced is a new rate selection mechanism which is optimized to select the best rate to achieve the best throughput. basically it's just an optimized way of selecting the best rate.

here is an example of how rate selection works (not our exact implementation), it can give you an idea on how it works in general and how it could be improved: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/do ... 1&type=pdf

we are still doing some improvements, that's why we left the old method for those who find the new one not so good. please test the new method and see how it works for you.

Any word on how close DHCPv6-PD is? Has work been started/done/debugged ? Would be a nice surprise to have 5.5 drop on world ipv6 day with DHCPv6-PD 8)

The v5.4 is great, but the bridge filters still broken and we're stuck with v4.17 in many rb's. Ticket#2011041266000166.
PS: Bug reproduced by mikrotik team

Does this mean a rb with "bridge filters" in use is not working?
But the option in bridge ´to use IP firewall filter´ is ok?

Updated today a rb433 from 5.1 on the desk.
After reboot wireless interface not available. Did another reboot and the interface came up.
That worries me, I don't want this to happen if I do remote, wireless, updates..... any more reports of this? Maybe this was just an rare ´hickup´. I already updated two rb411's remotely from 5,1 and 5.2 to 5.4 and that gave no problem...

Ok, Thanks for the explanation. I'm mainly using fixed rates so leave you guys to improve things and see on this forum how others use it before I might introduce it here and there in my network (hotspot systems...)

I had no test with "ip firewall filter" active on bridge settings, but maybe it works. The response from mikrotik team was: "We reproduced this problem - bridge filters do not work because of disabled connection tracking. We are working on fix for this problem."
But with enabled connection tracking the filters don't works too. :( :D
Does this mean a rb with "bridge filters" in use is not working?
Filters don't catch anything, but the rb works fine.

Just an observation: consider here a R52n on 2.4 Only G, 38 authenticateds UBNT's CPEs (Nano 2 Loco & Nano 2 Loco M).

Yesterday I changed from legacy to advanced and stay this way last 24h.

What I observed was - for now - Ptrhoughput much lower than using legacy (at the no traffic moments, loaded is less). Legacy ranges from 23000 to 30000 Kbps, Advanced from 500 to 12000 Kbps.

Both modes ping times (no traffic = no queue in service) from 1 ... 2ms to 10 ... 25ms.

I'll watch the differences a bit more.

Hi ...

On 5.4, RB411AR with R52nM as AP ... MIB does not match authenticated clients value:
iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.mikrotik.mikrotikExperimentalModule.mtXRouterOs
.mtxrWireless.mtxrWlApTable.mtxrWlApEntry.mtxrWlApClientCount.12

Result = 0
On X86, 433 & 433UAH are ok.

Re: RouterOS v5.4 released

Hello Folks!

I read from forum many issues around RouterOS v5.x

I have to ask, is v5.x really production stable ?

We have many customer devices needed to be upgraded from 4.16 and 4.17 to 5.2 or newer.
And yes, we have faced the strange reboot that become shutdown synodrome at many clients and would like to avoid such situation again, how do we do that upgrade ?

When upgrading from 4.16/4.17 the old wireless package is replaced by new package containing nv2, that is nice, but what happens with the wireless settings in 4.16/4.17, are they really transferred over correctly during upgrade session, will they come back up on the wireless network again after upgrade ?

Annoying observations when using winbox an v5.x, where did the "close box button" go, see red square ?

In v4.x we did have a "cloes box button" at upper left corner, see green square, how do I get that back ?

Re: RouterOS v5.4 released - rb532a stops some routes

Sat Jun 04, 2011 8:49 pm

My rb532a stops routing some traffic with upgrade from 4.16 to 5.4

Upgrades to several rb433 and rb433AH, all with some with wireless links, prove successful.

As the rb532a is a main link in our network, I haven't had a lot of time to evaluate the problem yet,
though it has been running the same routing tables for years.

Anybody else see this?

Re: RouterOS v5.4 released

Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:17 pm

Ok, I was already enthousiast about 5.0 and 5.1 that I used in all my 200+ network units. Then came the ´port flapping´ issue in 5.2 and another issue in 5.3.
So waited untill 5.4 was out and monitored this topic for some time and decided past week and this weekend to start updating my nework again...

Well, must say, I am even more satisfied now:
Upgraded all 240+ units ranging fm 112, 133C, 532A, 333, 411's, 433's, 600 and 800 and all went without any problem.
90% of these all updated remotely (wireless).
I noticed that indeed, like some already mentioned, old boards like 112 and 133C's are running like a train again. I use NV2 all over my network and in contrary to earlier versions I see no more really slow 112 and 133C's any more. Even with several windows open in winbox and a terminal window, all wireless, cpu spikes but in general stays around 40-80%. (Before this was 100%!). So, for low end users they are all back in the game!

Second great improvment: Even after the upgrade and following reboot some (?) boards came back up with their previous window (columns, items in rows etc) settings!
Even better, with 5.4 I can reboot unit and it comes back up with same settings! Finally! Saves me a lot of irritation :D

Port flapping issue is gone and all I see is that the network is nice stable and quiet (most updated run several days now...)

I think ROS5.4 is in a very good state now. For a no. 4 version this is amazing! Good job MT!

Only one possible issue I have interest in is left: simple queues/queues.
Some reported a strange behaviour here...
Hence my only unit not upgrade to 5.4 is my main router (rb1000) with 230 simple queues....
It still runs 4.11 and I am only upgrading is I get 100% feeling it will have no issue..

Are there any more reports of the queue issue?

What about support MSI? Debian 6.0 kernel 2.6.32-5-686 without modifications, use the PCI-MSI-edge for the AOC-SG-I2 (Dual i82575)

Result: 82575EB (AOC-SG-I2) 950Mbit () .... Debian cpu loaded to 3%, but Mikrotik loaded CPU to 50%!! (C2D E5200)

Tested on the same hardware and the same situation.

Is that so hard? basic Debian kernel can do it but not Mikrotik?

5.4 ATE MY ROUTER !?!?

I had been using 5.0 since it came out... I decided to update my 450G and 750G to 5.4... I used the drop .npk into the file section on Winbox and reboot method.

Updated the 450G and all is going well..

I updated the 750G and it stopped working right away on reboot. Kept rebooting - no traffic thru it at all. I got busy and did not get back to it for a few hours. When I did the first thing I noticed was that all the Ethernet port LED's were not lit... Then I noticed the ACT LED was flashing in a weird kinda fast random manner.. Even with nothing plugged into it..

I tried reset... I opened the unit and tried the internal reset...

Nothing.. Its dead... Brick.. Cant get connection to ethernet at all. Dead ports. Toast.

Just random flashing of the ACT light.. No Ethernet port lights.. The small chip gets warm the larger chip does not.

As it worked great before the upgrade and then stopped working on reboot with 5.4 I can only conclude 5.4 ate my router.

Thats a pretty harsh bug.

Gotta order a new router now.. Maybe Mikrotik could give me a discount on a 450G. Seriously.

[edit] I decided to move my 450G back to 5.0 as bricking and maybe hardware damage is scary :) The downgrade went smoothly.

During some testing we've noticed that both 5.3 and 5.4 have a IPv6 bug, ND is working but the router stops responding on the lan, a reboot fix's it. We're trying to catch it to make some rif's but in the mean time has anyone else noticed any v6 issues with 5.4?

kirshteins: My Ethernet ports are all dead. Also it wont go into Netinstall mode. Just completely random flashing on the ACT light. All the Ethernet port LED's are off.

My guess is that maybe something in my configuration ( just a SOHO setup ) caused a software loop and 100% CPU when I upgraded 5.0 to 5.4. It did seem to be rebooting in a loop at first like the watchdog was causing reboots. I tried to reset the config at that point with the reset button but it did not reset or go into Net install mode. I had a phone call and forgot about it for hours. Possibly it overheated with a 100% CPU usage and reboots during this time ? When I got back to it all its Ethernet port LED's were off and its ACT light was flashing really weirdly and randomly.

After more testing no doubt it was dead. The Ethernet ports never come on so I have no way to communicate with it as it has no RS232.

I suspect hardware failure. Its a brick now as I cannot communicate with it and I cannot reset it.

Its progressed to the activity LED not lighting at all now. The small chip gets hot but the large chip ( cpu ? ) stays cool.

Yea sadly its dead.. I tried another power supply just to be sure..

So the only LED on is the PWR LED..

4.5 was too much for it, hahahaha...

Yes, problem is here. My simple queues started to limit users to 1mbit even they are set-up to 3000k... Icons just go red even they have 750-800k of traffic. When I downgraded to 4.17 everything back to normal. It's on RB800.
I didn't manage to take support file because I spent 4 hours reviewing whats wrong and whith mobile phone ringing all the time I was just tring to see is there any my mistake or RouterOS. I felt happy when I realised that it isn't me :D

Manqust:
V5.4, RB750

[ZZZ] > system console print
Flags: X - disabled, U - used, F - free
# PORT TERM
0 (unknown) vt102
[ZZZ] >
I keep looking for that "unknown" port, hahahaha... At least I know I need to go buy a vintage VT100 terminal to connect to it once I find it.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VT102 Hmmm so I should be looking for a token ring coax connector then ?

The manual is not clear on what interface I should be looking for on my 750 ?

ROS v5.4: I am trying to implement "two gateways failover" (http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Two_gateways_failover), but my ISP is using DHCP for assigning me external IP and default gw. I can manipulate "distance" within the DHCP client settings, but there is no "check-gateway" option available. I see no obvious reasons why it should not be available for setting in DHCP client.

Can we see it in next version of ROS?

I can not (test) run all of my scripts in Winbox, but I can do it within the same Winbox terminal. Some of scripts do get ran when pressing "Run Script" and I see it at log, but some do nothing and nothing will appear in log as well.

Edit: Netwatch does not trigger running of these scripts as well. As I see Netwatch status change then why these scripts are not being run?

Edit2: Empty line (line feed) at line end made the scripts to fail:
/system script
add name=ton_link_is_up policy=\
    ftp,reboot,read,write,policy,test,winbox,password,sniff,sensitive,api source=\
    "/ip firewall filter disable 0"
add name=ton_link_is_down policy=\
    ftp,reboot,read,write,policy,test,winbox,password,sniff,sensitive,api source=\
    "/ip firewall filter enable 0"
add name=alterna_is_down policy=\
    ftp,reboot,read,write,policy,test,winbox,password,sniff,sensitive,api source=\
    "/ip firewall filter enable 1\r\
    \n"
add name=alterna_is_up policy=\
    ftp,reboot,read,write,policy,test,winbox,password,sniff,sensitive,api source=\
    "/ip firewall filter disable 1\r\
    \n"
Is it a bug or feature? What is that "\r"?

I have installed 5.4 several days a go on a x86 that has about 900 PPPOE clients. It crashed after a day and I had to downgrade to 4.17 again. I had the same problem with 5.2 and I'm hardly waiting to see it solved and install 5.x version.

Copy the route that the ISP gives you and then you can enable check gateway. It will disable both route if one goes down.

What should the "distance" value be set?
Edit:
I see it disabling all routes pointed to that "ping" checked gateway. That is not a good thing for me to have, I have to implement some Netwatch script instead of ping checking.
Edit2:
But Netwatch does not have ttl option or even interface binding to be sure that host check goes out from that fixed interface, so it is not suitable as well.

Did you sent autosupout.rif to support@mikrotik.com . if autosupout does not generated , then you should manually make supout file RIGHT when the problem exists . another advanced method is connect another computer via serial port (console cable) and run a program like hyperterminal and when problem occurs copy the results of console and send them to support@mikrotik.com .

indexes (like "disable 0") are valid only in Terminal and only after "print" command. use "find" command in scripts (like "/ip firewall filter disable [find comment="rule 1"]")

I have the same problem version 5.4 crashed, 2 to 4 days uptime. Version 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 the same problem. version 4.17 works perfect. 900-1000 pppoe users online.
when the crash happens, the CPU is 100%. (I use vmware and see the statistics of the cpu).

Server without virtualization. the same problem.

RB600 AP with 5.4 which ran fine on 4.x reboots every day.
Now I had to drive as it hangs completely. Downgraded to 4.17 now.

Had no problems with 5.4 on RB4xx so far.

Hello.
Problem with pppoe and openvpn on RB750G, firmware 5.4.
When connected router to internet through pppoe client and then connect ovpn client, router drop pppoe connection.
After reboot and established pppoe CPU load 100%, ovpn could not connect.
That problem was in 5.1, 5.2 and 5.4. I mail support about it before.
Can fix it?
ps: Ovpn client work fine with direct connection to internet (static IP on wan).
pps: release 5.x does not support routeros (Ethernet virtual nic) under Hyper-V :(

make ppp secret user account,
add option
auth-user-pass
in openvpn client config
and connect using login/password

Re: RouterOS v5.4 released

Mon Jul 04, 2011 4:00 pm

I'm sadly to report that this issue is just back in 5.4 again. It is only not that common as before but after some weeks now in 5.4 I still have several units with the issue. Most only a couple of times a day, some every couple of minutes.......
Strange is only that client don't seem to notice........

The queues issue mentioned doesn't seem to exist for me. Updated my rb1000 3 weeks ago with some 300 simple queues and have no problems found so far....
