I'm looking for options to backup configurations, either binary or text. I'd love to use RANCID, but I can't seem to get it working with 5.x. Anyhow, with binary backups.. I would probably prefer that the backup gets created on a scheduled basis and then gets transferred (via FTP/SFTP/etc) to a remote host on a scheduled basis. Is this possible in 5.x?

Also, what is the easiest method to restore - text export or binary backups?

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Text exports can be edited to load on other routers. Binary export can only be loaded back on the same device. Not other devices that are the same - only the same device the backup was taken on.

If you look at the wiki there are plenty of solutions for automated backups, with both push and pull methods.
