I am looking for a way to scan from a wireless and discover the available access points INCLUDING their security type (WEP or WPA)

In winbox easy, go to the wireless window and press the "scan" button. Do it while logged in on the ethernet side otherwise you loose the connection. Radio card cannot scan and associate to an AP at the same time...

I know how to do a scan but the type of security is not included in the output.
