Hotspot Walled Garen Portal Project

Wed Aug 17, 2011 7:36 pm

Hi Folks,

I'm working on a project which will provide internet access to caravan sites via WiFi.
From what I read routerOS should be well able to handle this for me.

The scope of the project is as follows:

1. Anyone can log onto the AP.
2. The AP hotspot is running a walled garden portal so they can only see sites we choose.
3. Clients will need to pay before he or she has full internet access.

I'm ok with steps 1 and 2 but I'm not certain of what I need to do with step 3. I believe I need to set up a Radius server, I see a radius option on the AP but I'm not sure of the best way to complete step 3 above.

I'm responsible for the APs where I work so I'm competent with the RF and networking side of things but running these as a hotspot is something I haven't done before.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Q.

Basically you need to use a back end services for billing, creating login page, RADIUS etc. You can use someone else's service, build one out and develop it yourself, or purchase a package that might fit your needs.

This is what we use for our back end system, and it works well for us.

It allows you to bill subscribers via credit card (one time or subscriptions), creates the login pages and landing pages for you, allows you to monitor equipment, and a few other things.

The wiki also has examples of using the User Manager package for paypall billing. There are also a few other sources out on the internet as well if you are willing to dig for them
