hotspot changes from 4.17 to 5.x

Thu Aug 18, 2011 9:55 pm

We have just started updating our network from 4.x to 5 6. I noticed that on our devices that we run hotspot, problems developed.

Baisc setup
For a tower, all aps are bridged to a MT controller on the ground. we put in ip binding bypass for fixed paying customers and infrastructure. Equipment behind the hotspot controller is not pingable from the controller or further down the network. In hotspot hosts, from and to addresses shows as normal. Disable the hotspot server and problem goes away. Doing a downgrade to 4.17 and we can run hotspot without loosing connection to the equipment beind the hotspot.

If it matters, MT controllers are routed, OSPF, Simple Queues, SNMP, NTP, Public and private IPs beind for customers, infrastructure, and hotspot people.

Very happy to research this, but I apparently am not searching on the correct terms. Any help with direction would be much apreciated.

EDIT: Just discovered it could be someting with licensing. Have a Level 6 license. There are between 497 and 501 hosts acording to hotspot.

Level6 license does not set any limitation for HotSpot.

One assumption AP-bridge connected to Hotspot changes MAC-address, because it has two interfaces in the bridge, no admin-mac set and first interface added to bridge goes down, bridge uses new MAC-address.
Set admin-mac=yes (if it is MikroTik RouterOS) to /interface bridge on AP router.

I think this may help with another problem I have been having also. using the above configuration. Hotspot controller for a Town, then small aps in a neighborhood to fill in the coverage. The AP is MT all bridged, it is fed via the ethernet by another mfg antenna that shows the mt macs. should I mess with the mac for the bridge and what Mac should be in the admin thing. Closest interface to the hotspot controller?

Thanks for the input. This could fix a long standing problem I didn't know where to start, with small aps getting "caught" in hotspot via some other mac on the small ap

Closest interface to the hotspot controller?
If admin-mac is yes, it does not matter.
