WIMAX Mini-PCI is out!

This for MT Guys, any plans of implementing WIMAX, since now the minipci card is out.

I asked MT about this last year.
The issue seems to be Linux driver support so it can be integrated into RouterOS. Without drivers, lots of otherwise nice 3rd party cards can't be used.

The documents on the wavesat website refers to drivers, and Linux software, but don't make it clear what is required to make the card run.

I sincerely hope too that the MT guys are onto this. There needs to be a Wimax upgrade path, preferably with multiple band (e.g. 5.8GHz as well as licensed 3.5) support.

PCI, you would use a PCI<>miniPCI adaptor.

Well, if anyone wants to try it, the vendor has a "closed system" eval platform based on Linux. It's aimed at OEMs who want to try the technology out before developing their own.

I too hope that MT get there soon, and everyone here can benefit.
There are many WiMax chipsets, but with support aimed at "closed systems" from equipment vendors. MT could really win by getting there with a RouterOS version.

Interestingly I note the chipset.card claims to forward-support "mobile WiMax" 802.16e, which includes the OFDMA extensions.

Personally, I think "e" is going to be the really interesting version of WiMax.

I've got a mail from MikroTik support to my exactly same question. They said they'll look into it as soon as they get hold of a SR3...

I think we should all realize that this card is a CPE solution not a base station.

That said, I would also love to see support for this as we are now running a WiMAX trial and would like to have an alternative CPE solution based on a platform we already trust.
