HWMP Network for Real World Application

Fri Sep 30, 2011 8:39 pm

I have setup a mesh network for an RV Park. The picture below is a loose representation of how it is set up, I couldn't find a good image to use for the OMNI AP's so just know that all aps can hear each other, The only reason for all the AP's is the trees and the fact that a lot of RV's in a straight line break up the signal. Everything appears to be working, however I feel like I am losing speeds because of interference, I don't know this for a fact, but sometimes it seems to drag and a couple minutes later it works flawlessly, I am using the simple queues that are automatically setup in a hotspot. I have 4 AP's on ch 6 2437 and those interfaces are in the /mesh/port for mesh1. I also have the 5ghz connections in mesh/port for mesh1, however with the 5ghz, according to http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/HWMPplus , are setup for wds-mode: dynamic mesh and wds-bridge: mesh1. I am wondering if I need to setup the APs for wds like the interconnections? Will that make it work better or worse? Thank you all for your suggestions and/or questions about this topic.

I can't offer any help on this other than try and see what works for you. I've noticed that anyone thats actually working with HWMP keeps the information very close to their chest. I got so frustrated with it, that Ive booked the relevent MT training course to get the answers.

Well if you have a question about making it work, I will be happy to help, I found the problems was in my bandwidth mgmt on the front-end not inside the mesh.

Can i just check setup of the 2nd radio (AP) ?

Ive got the Mesh running fine, but now wanted to add the 2nd WLAN interface for client connections. In the end, i just whacked it into the Mesh , but with no WDS/MESH and its all working fine. Is that the correct way, or have you added the 2nd WLAN (AP) in a different manner?

Sounds like you did it the same way I have. Sonny are you saying have your APs on different Frequencies?, I thought the main reason for mesh was the fact you could reuse the same frequency.
