VLAN config for RB750GL and RB250GS

Thu Aug 18, 2011 5:20 am

Hello, Pretty new to Mikrotik but so far love their products.

Anyway I'm trying to complete the following configuration based on the scheme here but believe I'm having issues with vlan trunking or tagging. I want to trunk between the 750 and 250 and have the 750 route the vlans. Just like a router on a stick scenarios I've seen but seem unable to get these to work.

I get it setup like I believe it should. But when connecting the links I lose connectivity to the switch 192.168.88.2. I feel like it's a vlan/trunking issue but not sure where to go from here. Config/diagram are provided.

Thanks,

RB750GL configuration appears to be fine. Please check the following example on how to configure 802.1Q Trunking using SwOS

Thank you for the reply. SWoS config looked pretty straight forward and I have that here. Still unable to get vlan trunking working appropriately. I should be able to ping the vlan interface 192.168.2.1 from the device on SW250 port 2. I am able to ping the SW250's ip 192.168.88.2 from a device on the switch which would be on it's same vlan.

Well it is working now. I moved the trunk interface on the RB750gl to interface 3 and then tried interface 3 without a master port and they are working great. I need to take a look at the wiki to see what the differences and needs of each now. But I think I'm on the right path now. Thank you for the response.

Im still confused.

My RB750GL doesnt show the VLAN-HEADER as an option in Winbox nor in the command line.

How do you tell it to strip tags or add tags on a 750GL without the VLAN-HEADER option?

In my case, I want ports 1-3 untagged VLAN 1, and port 4 tagged for vlan1 and vlan2 and port 5 untagged vlan2

Thanks :)
