Is there away to add dhcp/dns bindings in MT?

Tue Feb 14, 2006 7:25 am

Hello all. I have been working on getting an MT working and I am having an issue since I want to use MT as the dhcp-server for our different networks. I would also like to have the hostnames of the machines that getting addresses added to the dns running on MT so that I can do hostname lookups with out having to do static maps in MT. I could, but I don't want to ... kind defeats the purpose of DHCP ;-) Does anyone know of away to make the MT boxes do that? If this has already been brought up and answer, I am sorry, I did look for it :-) Just point me to the relivant pages in the man pages or on the forum.

Thnx

Well i guess you could make a script that looks through lease table for hostnames to put into dns.. I prefer setting up bind (even on a windows machine!) It can, when properly configured, handle what you want.

So, yeah, I thought about that ... it seems that this is the answer to "many" things in MT land right now. We have to use DHCP servers like this, DNS servers like this, radius servers like this ... suppose that is just the way it is right now. So do you do it in a cluster or just a single box solution? Do you run the DHCP server on the same box as bind? Or do you run it from radius and then how do you do the dns update?
