Simulate Latency?

Thu Dec 29, 2011 1:11 pm

Is there anyway to configure RouterOS to simulate a Higher latency link?

I did wonder if it was possible to use the Traffic Queues to hold the packets in a buffer for 10 - 20ms but I can't see how it would be done if it is indeed even possible.

It would be possible if Network Emulation (netem) is enabled in the kernel. This wide area networks simulation went in to mainline linux kernel from version 2.4.27 and 2.6.8.

I'm posting this only because RouterOS doesn't have this functionality.
There's another popular commercial grade x86 router distribution that will do this if you look into it's QoS functions for network emulation.
