[rb532a] problem with mounting CF card

Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:39 am

hi,
ive got problem with mounting my ST1 Series CompactFlash 5-GB Hard Drive in RB532a

in Store List, in disks tab i can see system and CF, system is build-in flash memory and its ok
whoever CF shows total space/free space 0kb, status invalid
when im trying to format CF, cpu jumps to 100% and takes forever - last time when i checked it took like 6 straight hours and i've got to reset router due to massive lags

i have 2 pieces of that CF card and both got same symptoms and both are 100% working
they are new (i've unfoil them) and work without problems when i connect it via adapter

i have tried it on RoS 4.17 - 5.12....

what can i do ? or format it on PC somehow ?

It's quite possible that the CF card is not supported. I had this with a CF microdrive on my RB532A as well. Took many hours to 'format' and really it was doing nothing. So, if you get nowhere with this, try sending supout to mikrotik they can quickly tell you if it is supported or not. Here was the reply they sent me:
Hello,

We found one ST1.2 8GB Seagate drive, and tested it, yes it doesn't work. I
talked to the engineers and they said that RB532 doesn't support any
microdrive disks because of some different drive mapping mode they use. You
can only use Flash Based cards (Sandisk Extreme for example). The Seagates
will work in PowerPC based RouterBOARDs though

The time does not matter. They will be looking for PCI codes and driver info etc. But also see my edited info :-(
