The metal case for RB2011L-IN is 1-U rackmontable?

Isn't specified in the PDF. If not is bad.

no, RB2011L-IN has desktop case. RB2011L-RM will have rack mount case, but it's not ready to order yet. Only desktop is. We will have 8 models, including bare, desktop and rack mount.

i hope the rack version with SFP will have more RAM
64MB is not much, comparative with RB450G's 256MB RAM

Why Level4? Level3 would be enough

I don't understand, does the price of the unit somehow exclude it from having an MTU?

I'm just trying to figure out what the MTU is so I can decide whether to use them or not. The figure doesnt seem to be documented anywhere which is why I'm asking, no need to get passive aggressive about it.

I was responding to person who compared it to RB450G.

About the L2MTU size: 1598

Hi,

Do you plan to release all RB2011 with same CPU/RAM configuration or there will be differences between models?
Just asking because RB2011L-IN is exactly what I'm looking for, but if you plan to release a more powerful version I would be happy to pay more for it 8)

Re: RB2011 Announcement ?

My wish is you guys make RouterBoard chassis, that can integrate/merge routers for to improve performance. Like Cisco stacking or Line card option. For example (only my vision):
I have 5Unit RBChassis with RB2011(rackmount). It is very good for my office environment. Once we need to connect to other office through IPSec, so we will install RB1100AHx2 for 400Mbps IPSec only. 2 months later boss says need to filter total 1Gbps traffic using L7 and content filter. So I`ll install second RB1100AHx2 etc...
Of course need to upgrade RouterOS, that can manage many routerboards by one management. If I configured router as IPSEC role. It is only able to used for IPSec. If I configure router as PPPoE server role, It is only able to run PPP processes. It means we can manage 3 routerboard by one RouterOS.

Sorry for my bad english. :-)

This is a microUSB port so that you can use your standart phone charger cable to plug the router into your PC and configure it directly over USB (something like a replacement for serial port). There are also some other exciting features planned for this port.

Hello,

Price range of RB2011 product line is very attractive to me.
I especially waiting for SFP+USB port version. it will work at local market.

question is RB2011 processor power enough for src-NAT 1Gbps service?
i tested rb450G,rb1200,rb1100ah,rb1100ahx2 for sorNAT performance with my laptop.(only WAN + 1 LAN client with src NAT)
when it direc connect with WAN, download speed reach 982mbps MAX,
with RB450G it can reach 340mbps with around 90% cpu load
with RB1200 it can reach 530mbps with around 80% cpu load
with RB1100ah it can reach 670mbps with around 80% cpu load
with RB1100ahx2 it can reach 710mbps with around 60% cpu load
5160 dual core xeon with intel dualport server nic x86 machine can reach 980mbps with 10~15% cpu load.
i tested with ros v5.11 last month.

i also understand RB is not dsl router only but some of dsl router can reach 1g srcNAT with some accelerate processor(?) like a ASUS RT-N56U
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless ... r-reviewed

how good perfomance can i expecte to rb2011 product line for srcNAT?
If it can handle over 600mbps WAN to LAN srcNAT throughput with less then 50% cpu load, i'm pretty much sure this product line will work at our local market.

RB2011 is a low cost device (below 100$). I can't imagine how anyone can make 10G ports on a 100$ device. For this type of ports, you should be hoping for the CCR series: http://routerboard.com/CCR1036-12G-4S

Currently it will have 1G ports, but we will see about 10G in future models.

He means the number of the ports - 10 ports each 1 gig.

[offtopic] What's wrong with 10gigabit on a sub-100$ device? Should happen sometime in the future. [/offtopic]

P.S. I am waiting for the "full feature" model to come out, I want one with wireless, USB, etc etc :)

Current board design allows us only to use 5x Gigabit and 5x 100mbit.
For my environment, it is enough and very good cost effective design. No need 10xGiga interfaces if CPU doesn`t support 10Gbps L3 throughput.

you assumption is wrong, SFP and Gigabit ports (total of 6 ports) are all connected through switch chip. 100Mbit ports are connected directly to CPU. This is because of CPU design.

Thank you for your answer, a few questions remain however. ;-)
Ok so we have 6 Gigabit Ports on a switch chip with an 1G Uplink to a CPU/SoC interface?
The 100Mbit/s ports are real interfaces of the CPU or also grouped over an CPU/SoC internal switch?

All of them are real interfaces!

CPU has 1GBit channel to the 100Mbit interfaces, and one 1Gbit channel to the switch chip.

The 5 Gigabit Ports and the SFP ports are connected to an external switch chip, Atheros 83xx?
And the 5 100Mbit/s Ports are connected to what, an internal switch chip? I can only see two bigger ICs at the PCB pictures, I assume the left one is a Switch chip and the right one the CPU/SoC?

My RB2011 tells that it has two switches: ar8327 and ar8227. Not sure how those are wired however.

Sorry, I must have mixed that up somehow. I was thinking about those diagrams there: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Switch_Chip_Features
But you are right, there is no block diagram of the RB450G, just an explanation about the switch-all-ports setting, which must have tripped my imagination.

Ok, what do you think? I think it might be a good idea to document the topologie of the RB2011 and maybe even other boards which employ switch-chips for port multiplication.

Hi Normis

some question

1. You give link http://img.routerboard.com/pricelist/272_hi_res.png for the front side
Do you can give link for the back side for rb2011

2. I understand that all rb2011 including rb2011u have the same board or all the same it will be different - because rb2011u should be and WIFI, USB and sfp?

3. In photo 272_hi_res.png we see pointec pt973216bg - 512 Mb(32Mbx16)DDR II, 0.11 um, 533/667 MHz - 64MB
but I see a place in the next one memory chip - it means a rb2011u models will have more memory - but as 128MB or 256MB?
Or maybe on rb2011u board with WIFI & SFP on the back side of board set place for memory chip ?

It seems to me, i think that the 8-port (4x1000 and 4x100) + WIFI + SFP memory must be at least 256MB
because the number of ports is large enough - 8 + WIFI + SFP

4. And when the model rb2011 with WIFI, SFP, USB will be available?

normis,

if it is possible, please, answer following questions:

1. if I am not using (plugging anything into/setting any rules for) 100 Mbit ports and SFP port, will they still waste any system resources in RB2011US model?

2. can you estimate what "soon" for RB2011US-2HnD-IN model means? days? weeks? months?

3. can you estimate price cap for RB2011US-2HnD-IN model? <200 $? <300 $?

I've nearly decided to buy 751G-2HnD but RB2011US-2HnD-IN suits my needs better, I need info how long will I wait and how much will I pay for it.

Thanks in advance.

yes, microUSB (like on many phones).

of course not
2. can you estimate what "soon" for RB2011US-2HnD-IN model means? days? weeks? months?
sorry but I don't have this information, please follow any updates on the forum and at your distributors
3. can you estimate price cap for RB2011US-2HnD-IN model? <200 $? <300 $?
I don't have this information

RB751G is a very good choice. Unless you really need SFP and the extra ports, get the RB751G now, and maybe upgrade to RB2011 when it comes out.

There are some plans to connect the router directly to a PC as a portable router, and to use USB port for configuration (like a serial). Most people have this cable, because nearly all modern phones use it, so it's convenient to have this type of connector. New EU law also states that all phones must have this connector, so in the future we will see even more such cables.

But its possible to connect via this port some usb storage device like usb flash that could be used as an accessory stores say to backup configurations, etc.

There is also an interesting question, if you position on the soho segment rb2011
why not build it, the ability to connect printers to the possibility of a wired / wireless printing?

Hi,

5 x 10/100 Mbps ethernet ports with integrated PHYs for direct connection to transformers. This integrated switch should have 1Gbps throughput Connected to the internal switching bus. in short This is actually 6 port switch integrated into 9344.

There is also 1000 Mbps Rgmii MAC interface for external switch connection.

Regards

But in this case need a converter to a regular usb, that would not be very nice (the extra wires) ;(
why do not use standard usb, like in RB751G-2HnD

All RB2011 models with U letter, not L letter. For example 2011US-2HnD will have voltage monitor.

Dry Testing: 3-Steps to Determine Market Viability

Do you have an idea for a new network product or service you just know people are going to love? Before you spend months (or years) of your time and thousands of dollars of capital, why not first do some dry testing.

The purpose of dry testing is to measure the interest level for your network product at a certain price point. In a dry test you set up a site where you act like the network product is already available, but just before someone is able to buy, you redirect them to a page telling them the product is not yet available. Then you can ask them to sign up to be notified when it hits the market.

Dry testing is a bit shady if you carry it too far. As soon as you know there is interest — let’s say on “page 2″ of your site — you need to let people know the product is not yet available. You definitely don’t want to get someone’s credit card info unless you will actually ship the product within 30 days. (There’s laws against that.)

This isn’t just for completely original product ideas. You may already be committed to build your business, but you want to know which features most resonate with your market. Your dry test would then be an A/B test for various product features to see which capture the most interest. You can do the same with different price points.

Whoops !! They wouldn't do that?

Normis,

The news we want is about 2011US-2HnD...

Don't say that the RB2011 is "out", when "RB2011" isn't enough to specifically say which version / model... The MUM reference for this model (2011US-2HnD) said available end of March... Which one? Apparently we're not talking about the one in 2011 or 2012, and I can only hope that you mean 2013, because really I don't think I can wait much longer...

I really don't care when you release your products, but at least give us realistic time frames on when we can expect to see this stuff... That way we can realistically plan our own time lines, projects, and deployments.

Thanks,

Wazza

I am also interested specifically in the 2011US2HnD model's release date. I am having good luck with the 751U but anxiously await the rb2011 advanced models for wireless, added ports, usb to connect to UPS for monitoring etc.

Thanks

Will there be a RB2011LS-RM or alternatively, a RBRMK for the RB2011LS ?

Distributors have the information about them for a month already, why don't you ask there :) ?

They are also on our webpage: http://routerboard.com

The information published on http://routerboard.com/RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN is somewhat controversial. The "Product specifications" table says the license level is L4, while textual description says it is L5, and the brochure pdf claims it to be L5 as well. Who lies?

Yes, eagerly awaiting also! Soon is just such a horrible teasing answer..... soon in 20 weeks..... soon in 2 weeks.... soon!

Sadly my two suppliers aren't giving me a definitive answer either.

*twiddles his thumbs* I'm just going to set an unrealistic expectation of ordering before the end of the week and all will be well. ;) 8)

What is internal hdd space on it? I couldn't read it anywhere.

Internal storage space? I'm not quite sure what you are trying to figure out. If you are talking RAM, it has 128MB of operating RAM and probably 128MB or 256MB of ROM (internal storage). You are not supposed to use that storage for anything else but log files, config files, etc.

If you wish to add storage you can do this using the USB connector. But usage for this is very limited! You cannot use it as a NAS to serve files to your network.

Other then that, excited to see the newsletter just now: http://download2.mikrotik.com/news-41.pdf

Hopefully that means it will be available VERY soon. Both my suppliers reported today that they do not know when it will be available and are waiting on information form MikroTik.

Yes, internal storage space (for config, upload of routeros files and dude...).

Usually, RB boards are equipped with 64MB, but I have some with 128MB and even one with 512MB...

On 64MB hdd I can't install dude with other packages, while on 128MB hdd's I can.

Best regards,

Petar

Anyone have an update on the availability of the RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN? My supplier says soon, I've seen some messages about the 30th, but nothing concrete. If anyone has some information, please share! :)

I just got word from my supplier that there was a little delay but they now expect them to arrive on 1 Sept! I plan to order as soon as they are in and will keep the forum updated so everyone knows when they are really available. (This is specifically about the RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN)

News from the front!

It seems that they have updated the product page in routerboard.com today ( http://routerboard.com/RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN ). It now lists wireless and ethernet throughput where it did not before. Also more 2011 models where added on the mainpage.

Quite unique that they state wireless throughput, I haven't seen it for the other products?

Let's hope my supplier can keep their 1 September 2012 date and I can order them tommorow! :D

Good news! My supplier listed the RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN as 'on stock' today so I ordered a couple.

So they should be available or start to come available in the next couple of weeks. I do not know how mikrotik handles distribution and which regions get it first. There are already FCC documents of this version, so even the US should get it pretty soon I think.

When it arrives, I'll share my experience and photos if anyone wants it? I'll create a new topic.
