Can't get links to show automatically between switches

Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:18 am

If I let The Dude scan my network, it picks up our switches (as well as computers, printers, etc) but won't automatically show links between them, instead linking them all to a network cloud. I'm sure when I used this previously it did find the links and monitored them, however now we are using different switches - 3Com 2928 AKA HP 1910, with a 3Com 5500G as the core switch. I've tried the stable and beta versions. What am I doing wrong?

You sure it was The Dude that automatically connected the switch links? I have a proprietary network monitoring tool produced by the manufacturer of my network equipment which does exactly that. But I have never seen The Dude automatically detect switch interconnections - only what you describe. Connecting them all into a layer 3 IP cloud.

Hi,

I am having the same issue. We just moved to 3COM v1910 switches and the autoscan is doing exactly the same thing (linking all devices to a network cloud)

Have you been able to resolve this problem? Thanks

No, not within The Dude. I got it to work in HP's PCM after turning on LLDP on all the switches but The Dude still links them to a cloud. Maybe try playing with LLDP in your setup. Let me know how you get on!
