Wifi Covering 1square km

Wed Mar 28, 2012 9:24 am

Hi,

I would like to build a hotspot network in remote are using mikrotik.
The are consists of 500 x 500 meter.
Concurrent users will be 500. There are porta cabin homes are there.

Planning to put 20db 120degree sector antenna in the height of 6 meter (all the porta cabins are at the height of 3M) with R52HN and 433Ah.

Is my calculations are correct?

my assumption, you will have 3 radio and 3 sectoral antenna on single RB433. If we split the load into 3 radio's, you will have around 160 client on each radio. This number is huge, i don't have realy experiences on wireless world, but this number seem to high for me.

If it possible, try to handle below 50 user on each radio. Correct me if i am wrong please.

If all of the portacabins are the same height and there are no other obstacles, you may be able to get away with a omni directional antenna in the centre of the land. You'd need to make a careful selection of the particular antenna though to ensure all potential clients are covered.

If using sector antennas, where would you intend to place them? In the centre of the land, or on each corner? You may get wireless blackspots underneath the antennas.

For 500 customers, you need at least 10 radios to split the users.

You can use 12 30º panel antenna, 3 RB 435 and 12 RB52 cards

But... it will never work fine. In 2,4 Ghz (if you want to run a hotspot, it will be in 2,4ghz, true?) there's only 3 non-overlaped channels.

166 customers transmiting into the same channel.... will crash sure

If you're going to install CPE into the clients, you must use 5ghz band, and differents channel on each.

If you've to use 2,4 band, maybe you can install 12 separate AP, with very low power, and a trunk network in 5Ghz to connect them

Regards
