802.11n 3x3 with 3SS

Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:33 am

Any plans to release point to point 450Mbps with a 3x3 with 3 Spatial Stream? Looking 4ward for this
Tnx

Any plans for a triple polarization antenna?
In free space, for outdoor links (in Line Of Sight scenario) the spatial streams are different polarizations :). That's the only way to send/receive 2 different signals on the same frequency. And you can have only two orthogonal (totally different from each other) polarizations - either two linear (one horizontal and one vertical) or two circular (one CW and one CCW). Any other polarization would be just a combination of those two.
So - physically, for an outdoor LOS radio link, only 2 streams can be used. In an indoor environment we have multipath propagation, and maaany different streams without using different polarizations (just the antennas shouldn't be too close, one wavelength margin is sufficient) - so we can do 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 etc. (if we have a powerful enough chipsets to do the space-time coding/decoding).
Hope you enjoyed the lecture ;).

The Atheros 3x3 chipset supports beamstearing, which I don't think is going to work with dual polarity.

I am looking for a 3x3 card myself for an experiment.

I think Compex makes one, but it is mini PCIe.

Look at LTE technology, there is MIMO 4x4 - so it's possible to have system with more than 2x2 in outdoor links.

You can try this card:

It's cheap card with AR9380 chip.

I don't know why there is no information in english :/ Maybe ask them with e-mail.
I've found information about their 3x3 antenna:
http://www.cyberbajt.com/en/shop_item/3 ... o_3x3.html

Here is some sample, how this antenna can work:
