PC/X86 v4.3 to 5.18

Tue Jul 03, 2012 1:49 am

What is the best method to update this? Any gotcha's I should be looking out for? I will snapshot it before updating it, just looking for someone with past experience, this will be the first of many updates for me on mikrotik PC/x86.

This machine that I will be updating is running a core 2 duo 2.8Ghz and 4GB ram. I also have ESXi running on it (therefore the snapshot prior to updating).

Of note this is also running a 500+ user hotspot.

export config to file (NOT backup), then update. easy!

I had one running 3.30 for quite some time, needed some support for Intel cards, updated to 4.17 and ran it for a little while, no problems, updated to 5.11, ran for about 6 hours then reboot, about another hour, reboot.

Downgraded to 5.8 got better, down to 5.7 and got a little better still.

Contacted support, they said there are issues with multicore systems and v5. Best bet is either to downgrade to 4.17 or wait for v6.

I think he said it was an issue with simple queues and IRQ management in multicore systems.

On 4.17 I cannot get the uPnP to work correctly to stop the strict NAT setting on XBOX's.

I cannot find a work aroud except that supposedly its fixed in newer versions. I do not use simple queues so if that is the only issue then I may give it a go.

I disabled simple queues and the router still randomly hangs.

We have to get another fiber converter and then we're rolling back to 4.17.
