Having Problems with User Manager - Default Router IP

Sat Jul 14, 2012 5:16 am

Let me explain my network then we can discuss what problems I have:

A x86 as the main Server with Mikrotik Radius configured and USER MANAGER .
ether1 - WAN IP from ISP
ether2 - Hotspot
ether3 - User running on queues and PPPoE.

I have another 2 sites where I want to have a RB 450 and let users loggon that. I mean the Mikrotik Radius is configured on RB 450. A fixed IP on ether1 of the RB 450 on which I can limit the bandwidth flow. Users then loggon the RB 450 from ether2 - ether5.
Now if I have RADIUS configured on the x86 with default router IP 127.0.0.1 and shared secret - 1. I do not have any problems with that. Users directly logging on the x86.

1. Problem is that I gave Router IP 192.168.0.1 in RADIUS for the RB 450 and created users. The PPPoE users I had created on the router were able to loggon but had frequent errors because they would loggon once but will not loggon the next moment. The RADUS users I created would never loggon and give error 691 i.e invalid username password on the domain. How do I resolve this??

2. I changed the Router IP on RB 450 to 127.0.0.1 and the Radius users also could loggon and so did the PPPoE users but I find in the log that many users which are created on my main x86 often try to loggon the RB 450 and in log it shows - authentication failed. Hence those users complaining of disconnections.

I have read at a few places about different User Manager Router IP being given for the RB450. Can someone please illustrate how to do it. The RB 450 recieves bandwidth from the x86.
The information on Wiki is too less and not very illustrative. I have tried to contact Mikrotik Support and they have been helpfull by replying to my variuos queries and helping me reach so far. I thank them for that.

Coming to this forum has always given me more ideas and ways of implementing things.
