Advice for Hotspot setup using RB751G-2HnD

Wed Aug 15, 2012 1:42 am

I am about to purchase a large quantity of RB751G-2HnD to be used as individual hotspots.

I am reading on this forum that the specific series is not "good" for what I am about to launch and I am getting cold feet.
I need to answer the following questions so I can feel safe with my purchase.

1. How many wireless clients can a RB751G-2HnD take at the same time? (for arguments sake, lets say tx/rx are limited to 512k/512k) on b/g/n.
2. How stable is this device with many users connected at the same time (are there any field tests for wireless capabilities?)
3. I am going to be using the hotspot feature + remote radius server for authentication. Does this affect the boards performance?
4. I will not be using an external antenna as its for indoor hotspot use only, I keep hearing that people are disabling chains to get this to work properly, any advice on this?
5. I will be using the MikroTik injector power cables (1Gbit edition) to power each hotspot. Any experience using these devices (cable length limitations, quality of stable power supply, etc)?
6. I will not be using any Network port except the POE + DATA feed from the ISP device to feed internet to the RB751G-2HnD. This is a given that I wont be pulling more power than 1 port + the built in Wireless interface for the AP hotspot.
7. I am assuming that the RB751G-2HnD will do a better job than the RB751U-2HnD as it has more RAM (holding more network states and supporting more wireless clients) Am I assuming wrong here? there is a huge cost gap between these 2 devices and I do not see another difference.
8. I will be using OVPN to connect all my RB751G-2HnD's to 1 central point to manage them all (for configuration and maintenance purposes, is this feature stable enough to rely on when used in combination with the hotspot + radius features?
9. I have heard of various revisions of this model (especially when referring to the antenna port as a visual difference), what else is different?
10. I have 1 RB751G-2HnD setup with what I just described but I can't rely on 1 unit for a field test, I am hearing so many bad things about these models when used for AP hotspots that I am not "convinced" yet to place the volume order. There seems to be little to no replies based on solid workarounds on reproducible issues posted by various other members of this forum (high ping rates, weak signal, random reboots, loss of signals, incompatible standby mode devices, etc)

I would appreciate a detailed answer if possible based on each point individually to keep the answers consistent to the questions.

I hope I was clear enough with my concerns,

numbers of user depends on the users activities and bandwidth they will use. importantly upload speed
numbers of users will depend on the quality of signals they are getting, if one client is getting poor signals , this user will effect all the users.
no board performance will not be effected.
chain???????????????????????????

i told u above also no of wireless client depends on the quality of signals other user getting but the processer and the ram also play part in this
10. poor knowledge of any thing is very dangerous same here also . people who simply purchase product and place stupid post on the forms. implantation of hardware requires sharp knowledge and good configuration is also requires

good luck in advance

give karma if i helped you
thanks
